Cali is throwing up and bloody stool Cali was fine when I left this morning to go to the Dog show and late morning my daughter called and said Cali seemed sick and I told her to keep an eye on her and call me if she seemed bad. When I got home she had just thrown up a little bile and wouldn't eat. Then she had a pretty bloody stool that was formed but a lot of blood, and then threw up two more times. She has not eaten anything other than her usual diet. I am thinking I better take her to the ER but I was hoping she would settle down. I am concerned it may be pancreatitis. Does anyone know how you can tell pancreatitits from a regular tummy upset? Please keep her in your prayers. She is sleeping right now so I a going to give it an hour ans see how she is then. Thanks |

I am so sorry to hear about Cali. I know you want to see if she settles down, but I would take her to an emergency vet hospital. Whenever blood is involved, I think emergency. Please keep us posted; I hope she'll be ok. Prince's mom |
Oh my! You need to take her into the vet ASAP! You need to have them check her for a condition called DIC immediately. I recently lost a dog to this. It started this way, I took him to the ER vet who told me he was fine and just had an upset stomach etc. It was BS, he was dead 2 weeks later. It causes mass hemorrhaging all over the body and causes fluid to accumulate around organs such as the lungs and heart preventing the animal from getting enough oxygen but not showing any symptoms. The first sign is a bleed out and vomitting. You need to make sure that she does not have this. I hope this helps, do some research and talk to your vet. Good Luck!!! |
The only way to diagnose panc. is a Spec cPL or possibly ultrasound. If Ellie was throwing up and had bloody stool, I think I go ahead and take her to the ER or at least call her vet. If you decide to not take her immediately, make sure her gums are pink. |

I know when my other dogs did that it turned out to be just a simple stomach bug ( or something he ate) I freaked out because when I saw the blood in his pooh I thought he was hemorrhaging or his insides were coming out. The Dr. said that it is very common to have bloody pooh with a stomach upset. I will be Praying for you and your little Cali. Tami <>< |
I just had a similar incident with pee-nut and his stool looked like black raspberry jam and he was not eating and vomiting mostly bile. I took him to the vet with a stool sample and he was diagnosed with Hemmorrhagic Gastric Enteritis (HGE) which can be deadly if not treated. The vet said in his condition she would hospitalize him however seeing how attached we were she thought he would be better with me (less stress). So she injected him with fluids which made him look like a yorkie on steroids, and gave him a heavy dose of antibiotics. He was not to eat or drink for 24 hours. And he was put on oral antibiotics for a week, and science diet. By the second day he was back to normal.:) I would recommend going to the vet immediately. Good luck |
