Strange behavior My sixth-month old Yorkie, Bradi, has been acting very strangely tonight. My wife and I spend the majority of our time with Bradi in a downstairs family room, where we watch TV every night. Suddenly Bradi is spooked by something in the room. She keeps looking up at the lights on the ceiling and is hiding under the coffee table (which she's never done before). We've racked our brains for hours trying to figure out what she's looking for but can't crack it. There's absolutely nothing different in the room tonight from the past six months. Could it be a reaction to something? Can you see/hear/smell something we can't? We're usually pretty calm people but this is freaking us out. Thank you for your help. |

my charlie is six months old and have this strange behavior too. Sometimes he will stopped playing and stared at the door..then he will run and sit by my feet... Or when we are outside, he will stopped and just stared at nothing. He will act scared. |
Bailey went through a phase like this too - it lasted a month or two. I did my best not to encourage it. In our case, Bailey was scared of the fridge. Every time the fridge door opened, she left the room. Slowly she got over it. Good luck!! |
welcome to YT! How is Bradi today? |
Was the light bulbs changed recently? Maybe brighter now? Or there could be a bug flying around near the light? Sometimes they can be sensitive to light too. Not sure why this is happening all of a sudden. However dogs do pick up on things we can't . They are more sensitve to sounds and visual stimuli then we are. |
It's ghosts! |
Thank you all for your responses/concerns. Bradi continued to be scared of the ceiling the next day but hasn't shown that behavior too much since then. I guess this was my introduction to wonderful world of parenting a Yorkie, where sudden strange behavior is the norm (that's what we've read). We actually thought about the ghosts that could be living in our house. Maybe our 3 lb puppy will scare them away!:) |
We put in surround sound and Hot Rod gets freaked out by some of the sounds on tv. He goes nuts when crickets start. lol. |
A couple of things came to mind when I read these posts. 1. Puppies under a year go through a couple of 'fear' stages where they suddenly become fearful of familiar things or people. I believe one stage is around 4 months and the other at about 10. 2. This behavior could also be a form of seizure from a health related issue, food allergies or other things. If you would like to explore that a little more you can read around this website: Canine epilepsy and diseases that cause seizures in dogs It is full of information and has descriptions of different types of seizures. Hopefully it isn't seizures in either of these puppies. |
