thanks,im at school rite now so Im not so familiar with the vets here so Im online searching for the one that opens earliest ot of hte ones ive been recommended....what do you think about the possibility of giardia or coccidia?she went to the dog park for the first time a week ago....is anyone familiar with these? |
It is possible. both are parasites and common. Has she had all her shots? |
yes,all shots were finished early january, thats why i thought it was safe to take her.... |
My senior Yorkie had something the vet described as crystals in his urine. I could see a grainy material when the urine dried. It was something they treated with a prescription dog food, and it never became a major health problem in his life. I've read where it can happen to younger dogs too. I'm not sure that's your problem, but I wanted to give you some hope. You might google "crystals in dog urine" if you want more information on that. Good luck. |
Oh good! Just keep water down herr and get her to the vet when you can and good luck. Try not to worry mine have had diahrea before also and it didnt end up being giardia or coccidia. One time it was worms and another just gastrointestinal upset. |
ok,thank you all so much,i feel a lil better now! |
update,it is giardia...she has antibiotic, anyone have experience wit this? |
Here is a link about it. I know you have to disinfect any area where your dog goes to the bathroom or they can keep reinfecting themselves with it. Dog Owner's Guide: Giardia |
i didnt kno it was contagious to humans too! yikes, time to start washing everything!!!!thanks for the information! i also read flagyl has some bad side effects, that is what she was given, should i be concerned?? |

Flagyl is one of the treatments of choice. If it makes you feel any better, Ellie was on it for over a month without a problem. You might also have to go to Panacur. |
Thanks for the update. I was worried about your pup. Sounds like it's treatable. I'm so glad. |
