Puking after shots? On Wednesday the 11th, we took Sapphire to the vet. Just a regular check-up. She got a couple of shots and a nose drop. I think it was for Kennel Cough, Lyme disease, and something else. She's thrown up quite a few times the next couple of days. Is this normal? Is she just having a little reaction to the shots? She seems to be fine, and hasn't done it for a while. |
She could be having a reaction... just watch her closely over the next few days and if she doesn't stop or is getting worse, take her in to the vet. I know there is a shot called tagament (spelling?) that can be given for nausea and it helps almost instantly. Also just keep some nutri cal or karo syrup handy, just in case you feel she needs some. Hope she feels better soon! Chip has really bad reactions to vaccines and each time we give him one, the episodes come faster and harder. Poor baby. We've finally learned... no more shots for Chip! |
I've heard on here about Nutri Cal and Karo, but what is it? And what is it used for? |
As I'm sure you know yorkies sometimes have trouble with hypoglycemia. Sometimes if they throw up often or aren't eating, it's good to give them a small amount (usually about a pea sized amount) of one of the two just to make sure their sugar doesn't drop. We used to give it to Chip twice a day when he was a baby because he had hypoglycemia problems, but never give it to him unless he's sick then I just give it to him once just to be on the safe side. NUtri cal is kind of like a paste-ish type thing, but it's brown and stinks, but apparently it tastes good to the dogs. It comes in a tube that looks like toothpaste. You can get it at any pet store in the supplement section. Karo syrup you can buy in a grocery store. I'm not sure what aisle it's in because I don't buy it, but it's in a bottle and I believe it's clear colored. |
Oh, ok. She doesn't have a problem eating, though, and only pukes once maybe twice a month at the most. This is the most at once so far. I figured it was just the shots. |
