Dry Skin/Dandruff? Our three month old baby has developed something that looks like dandruff about two weeks ago. We bathe her approximately once a week and until recently had no signs of any problems. At her last vet/grooming visit they applied Frontline to her. Could this be causing her problem or am I bathing her to much? |
I think in the winter with the dry heat they are just more prone to dandruff. In the winter I only bathe every two weeks. In the warmer months when they are outside more I bathe once a week |
Is there anything I can do to possibly make her feel better and quit itching. I have heard you can add stuff to their food but I am afraid it will make her sick. |
When my babies were puppies I gave them a bath once a month, or once every 3 weeks if they're dirty (now, every 2 weeks just because their hair is long). In between, I wash their feet, behind, or rub them down w/pet wipes. Over rinsing is a must, left over residue of shampoo can cause dandruff. I wouldn't add anything to my puppy's food, you might want to wait on that. I use Frontline & it's applied directly on their skin in the back of their neck area, so I don't think it's the cause of dandruff. Mimi & Momo does scratch the area though after I apply, so I hold them until it dries. Afterwards, they're fine, so I don't think that's the reason for itching. But every dog is a little different. Hope your baby girl gets better soon.:p |
You probably aren't bathing her too much, but unless she gets really dirty, you can go a few weeks or so between baths. Our puppy had dry skin and dandruff, and we used a conditioning spray before brushing him and it has taken care of his dry skin, even in our dry Wisconsin winter. |
I bought some medicated shampoo from the Vet and it has gotten a little better. He said the frontline could have been the problem. I have tried bathing her every 3 weeks but she just gets so dirty and stinky. Right now we are bathing every 2 weeks. I am also spraying conditioner on before brushing. Thank you guys for all your help. |
