Tanj's blood work results I know alot of people on here have experience with liver disease so here is Tanj's results from Monday: Total Bilirubin: 7.8 Alkaline Phospatase 1059 ALT 1368 AST 405 GGTP 150 she had an ultrasound today and the vet said her liver was in really bad shape, and that externally she is tricking us by looking and acting normal. This is everything he perscribed: pepcid ac (10mg) 1/2 tablet once a day metronidazole (250mg) 1/2 tablet twice a day amoxitabs (100mg) 1 tablet twice a day ursodial 1/5 capsule once a day denamarin 1 tablet once a day 1 hour before a meal Hills l/d (1/2 a can a day) I am going to divide her food into 3 meals. Recheck of blood work in 2 weeks |
Did the vet give a diagnosis or are they unsure? The enzymes are very high but they can go up for so many reasons. :( |
They are unsure. Tanj likes to get in the garbage, pick up and eat things outside, and she licks her paws constantly so it could very well be poison. Also about 2 weeks ago our apt was sprayed by the pesticide guy and I asked was it toxic to pets? He said no just leave them in the kennel for 1 hour until it dries and they will be fine. That was a friday, I noticed her jaundice Sun morning so it may be related I'm not sure and can't prove it. Last nite was tough she had me up almost every hour to go outside, she has diarrhea but only a tiny tiny bit comes out when she goes (all she had yesterday was the new food and the ursodial) so hopefully things will be better today. I need sleep :( |
Oh, dear. It sounds like she may have been poisoned. She was actually sprayed with the pesticide? |

Poor baby. Sounds a lot like Chloe's numbers when she was poisoned. Her ALT is down to the 400s now, but it took 3 weeks to get there. It was initially 1200. Chloe is yellow too. Hope your Tanj is feeling better. Please keep us updated. |
Can you tell us any symptoms that she had?? |
Nothing except the jaundice. She was eating normally and her activity level was normal. We were sitting outside on that Sun (it was really nice and sunny) and I happen to pick her up and her belly looked a little yellow so I checked her eyes and sure enough jaundice. No diarrhea or vomiting. |
I'm sorry about your baby :( When your vet said her liver was in bad shape, what did he mean exactly? did he describe in more detail what he saw on ultrasound? My Lacy had high bile acids (but other bloodwork was normal) and she had an ultrasound yesterday and there were several abnormal areas found on her liver...they specifically said abnormal in texture. Her only symptoms have been intermittent vomitting/diarrhea and not eating about once every two weeks...this has been going on for a few months. They are going to do a biopsy on those abnormal soon to hopefully get an exact diagnosis. They were asking me about potential toxins though and i couldn't think of anythings he could have gotten into around the house. But she does lick her paw a lot too... i thought the pesticides they sprayed outside were supposed to be safe for animals  the only toxins i can possibly think of for me are frogs (she has attacked some in the past with her mouth), advantage, heartgard or pesticides sprayed outside. Did your vet consider a biopsy? I hope you can find something out and that she'll be okay |

Baby Chloe has very dark yellow or orange urine from high billiruben. She uses pee pads so it is easy to see. |
Oh I am so sorry this is happening to you. You might want to look into using Milkthistle--I am not sure of the details but I know a lot of Doberman people use it on their dogs with liver disease (since this is very common in the breed). Sending you positive energy and hoping for the best! |
Wow sounds like pancreatitis to me based on some of the things your vet prescribed. Izzy has pancreatitis and is on Science Diet I/D as well along with some other supplements but when she was really sick this past November she was in the hospital for 3 days on an IV and also when she came home on antibiotics and the Pepsid. She has to be on a low fat/low protein diet for rest of her life. Was your baby throwing up and having soft or loose stools? |
Update: Tanj got her blood work done again today and we will have results tomorrow. She has been doing alot better. She is playing more and being Tanj. :D |
