I need information on this for a fellow maltese owner so if you can post any information to help her on here that would be great

There are lots of articles with overviews on the internet.
I don't have experience with it but Ellie is about to be tested.

Marci, it isn't but I think a dog who has had pancreatitis is more likely to get it. It isn't a really common disease.

We have a pet at my clinic who has this--he takes a powdered supplement, that gets sprinkled on his food everyday. Poor baby is also diabetic, but he is doing very well(BTW, he's a schnauzer).

Marci, it isn't but I think a dog who has had pancreatitis is more likely to get it. It isn't a really common disease.
her dog has mvd and they think this and it is a maltese -- she has dealt with a nutritionist at ucdavis not susan though and is now getting a consult by dr centers who is an internal medicine specialist. Her dog has been so sick for a while though -- my dog had severe pancreatitis and had to have a plasma transfusion to save his life and has been good for 2 years but i read alot on this and this one seems very serious:( so just was curious of others dealing with it and what their successes are -- I found a yahoogroup that has 1200 members with this disease so that is always good too

thanks as i thought it could lead to diabetes as i know getting pancreatitis can lead to this as well as the pancreas controls the insulin in the body - so sad :(

I had read that there is a group on the net (may be on Yahoo) that has a lot of members whose dogs have this and I guess there is a deal worked out so that the owners can get enzymes needed for cheaper or something like that. Hopefully they can get it under control, otherwise it can be horrible. :( Has the dog had a TLI with Vitamin B12 and folate testing?

My lil' guy Deegan has EPI. I learned a tone (of which my vet never told me about) through this group...
Cheaper alternative to Viokase, how to mix it with food, etc...
