Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for her - they are MUCH appreciated  It IS VERY scary with our babies...the more I think about it, the more scared I get wondering why vets give our babies certain things that they probably shouldn't have - it just really makes you wonder sometimes if they care more about the stinking money than they do our actual babies

Cindy, thank you so so much  She has been ok so far - no more bloody stool episodes :hands: I am so thankful. I really do think that it was due to the Previcox....I am just so upset that I ever even gave them to her  I had NO idea. From now on, NOTHING is going into my babies stomach's before I research it *myself* FIRST.

Thanks so much Nancy. I do think that this happened because of the Previcox (pain meds) that she was on. The last pill is in the TRASH. I will never again give her that medication. From now on anything that ANY vet prescribes her I will research myself first online. Vet's are great and they save lives everyday, but you can't always be so trusting - I know that now.

my chi girl Shorty's got sensitive stomach and has had bloody (in color only though, not really blood in there) liquid like stool after eating some boiled lean chicken breat (still cannot figure out why), and it was nothing that serious, her vet perscribed her something for diarrhea and she got a lot better the very next day:)

Thank you so much girl...and I am so sorry to hear about Shorty :( That poor baby girl....but thank goodness it was nothing serious and the medicine helped cleared it up right away. Give her a great big hug for me

P.S. - Tatum says to give Dolly a little kiss for her :)

Oh Tatum!!! Well, I sure have experience w/ poo like this - it was back when Marcel was a puppy and had giardia twice - and then suffered afterward from what they "thought" was ibd/ibs/colitis for 4 months.

It could be just a quick something she is going through and it might resolve really quickly. Sometimes my babies will have a similar poo issue out of NOWHERE - and then it's gone. So let's cross our fingers and paws.

Otherwise, the fecal test it is. You could try giving some pumpkin, yogurt - or even better, some Benebac (from Petsmart/Petco).

I sure hope the little darling is better by morning. We will be thinking of her. Marcel sends extwa, extwa kisses and cuddles! :)

Awww Ann, thank you so much girl  Poor little Marcel...I know he has been through it too - our babies seem to have it so rough don't they? It just breaks my heart for them!

I think today's episode with Tatum was caused by the Previcox - remember when I posted about her being in pain and going down on her front legs? Well it's obviously because of the LP - so I called and had the vet prescribe her pain meds....and Previcox is what he gave me. NEVER AGAIN will I give her that stuff. Never again  :thumbdown I can't even believe he gave that to her. It makes me furious. I posted a thread in Health & Diet about it - but I am also going to post it in General (I hope that's ok??) - because I REALLY do want more people to see it....it is just SO important because this drug is prescribed so often. Too often. :(

Give Marcel tons and tons of hugs and kisses from Tatum....she is so in love with him and thinks he is her boyfriend you know :hearts6:

OMg!! I just saw this! I hope my Tate Tate is feeling better..That is so scary girl and I am sorry you guys had to go through that. I just read your other thread also and how scary!! i am praying for you guys and let me know if you need anything!!

MyTrixie143 01-28-2009 08:26 PM

Brooke, I am so sorry to hear that Tatum hasn't been well. Poor little Tate has been through a lot lately.
I am glad she seems to be doing alright now with no more bloody stool.

Brownie tends to get the same type of stool when he is stressed or when I give him a little something different in his diet. He has been thoroughly checked over it and it all comes down to either a tummy upset or stress for him. It is usually gone the next day.

I have heard that Bene Bac Gel is great to give them when they have this and that is really helps.
Maybe give it a try?
But knowing that she had coccidia at one time, I would still take a stool sample in to be on the safe side.

Hope little Tator Tot is feeling better!! Give her a hug for me!!

mxkids 01-28-2009 09:54 PM

I am sorry to hear about Tatum. I would bet the bloody stool is from the pain meds. I had a Pug who used to have bad knees, and was given different types of pain meds. (I THINK it was Rimadyl) after a couple doses he had bloody diarrhea. I was scared to death after I was told by someone that alot of dogs have died from it. I called my Vet and she switched him to something else that helped his pain but wasnt so hard on him. I think a bland diet Rice and chicken would help. Sending prayers for Tatum that she is comfortable and gets to feeling better.

rayray08 01-28-2009 10:07 PM

Aww, I'm late seeing this but I hope Tatum feels so much better! I hope it was just a little upset and nothing more!

Mahina had this happen, while I was at work. My mom called me telling me and I made phone calls to the vet, was about to leave work until they calmed me down. Turned out, from what we assume it was from the stress of so many people at my house on Xmas Eve. My poor babes. :(

Our babies are all so sensitive, good luck with Tatum! Keep us updated. ;)

chloesMama 01-28-2009 11:02 PM

Aww...I'm so sorry little Tatum isn't feeling well. I hate the thought of that little sweetie pie being in any pain :( I hope she feels better very soon!!!!

Brooke,

I'm so sorry that Tatum isn't feeling well! I hope she's better soon and whining for her veggies! :p

chachi 01-29-2009 05:42 AM

Chachi had it once when he had gastrointestinal upset and once when he had worms. I hope Tatum is better soon

CarlyBaby 01-29-2009 06:03 AM

Hi Brooke,
We had a similar thing happen with Beatrice about a month ago,but it started with loud growly noises coming from her tummy. We figured out with her that it was sensitivities to certain foods,it had been going on with various episodes for about 5 months, but they were getting closer together. We figured out now what she can and can't have.....by process of elimination.
It sounds like Tatums problems stem fro the pain meds though,I sure hope that she's feeling better. She is the cutest little doll I've ever seen :p
My thoughts are with you,

annamalyssa 01-29-2009 08:42 AM

Hi Brooke,

We all want you to give Tatum some loves for us, Myself, Gucci and Daddy too since he just adores her :) tell her we hope she feels better today. I have had that happen with my other dogs before but not Gucci. The other dogs aren't yorkies so I am not sure how much applies. But I DO think it is possible she could have just had a tummy upset.

Awgh the little tator tot, I read your Previcox warning THANK YOU FOR THAT, you just never know.

I bet you are so glad you researched that medication  because again, who's to say it wasn't something stemming from the meds but only the beginning. Had you kept giving it to her it may have gotten worse. I really hope that it wasn't, but I suppose you will never know but Tatum is ok and that's what matters!

donnarod 01-29-2009 08:57 AM

I sure hope she gets all well, very soon.

BonBon 01-29-2009 09:50 AM

Hope little Tatum is feeling better! :getwellso

Connie 01-29-2009 10:09 AM

Brooke...I feel so bad to see that Tatum is having problems again. That poor baby...and poor you. That is awful about that medication. Did she have any symptoms while on it? I think half the meds that are given to people and dogs these days, do more harm than good. Sending lots of kisses and get well wishes to darling little Tatum! Hugs to you!!! I'll be checking back for updates!

TatumsMom 01-29-2009 10:12 AM

My Tatum had 3 bouts of the bloody diahrrea a while back (don't know if you remember that) but it turned out to be from the formula change that Innova made. She's all better now that we've switched foods. I tell you what, that bloody stuff scared me! I was quite frustrated with the vet for not being able to pin it on anything besides "gastro upset" but I do realize that only I can really be the one to pinpoint the reasons in the end. After reading on here about the Innova change and going back through my checkbook and realizing that her problem coincided with the new food purchase (new bag, not new brand of food to her), then I felt so much better for finding the reason for her problems.

I do hope your vet can figure out what's wrong. Do you think it was the pain meds (read your other story too) that is doing this to her tummy? Sorry if you already answered this... didn't get to read every post.

lil fu fu girl 01-29-2009 12:11 PM

We sure hope she feels better soon. It can be so frustrating when you cannot pinpoint what is happening to them.:(

abby2473 01-29-2009 12:43 PM

Awww, hope little Tatum is feeling better today..... Thanks so much for your post about the medication. I agree with you 100%.....we just tend to be so trusting when it comes to Vets and Drs. Grrrrr!

ARCHIE 01-29-2009 01:35 PM

Brooke, sorry to see baby Tatum is not feeling well.
I am hoping today is a better day for the two of you.
