Help! Neutering problems! 2 Attachment(s) I am asking this for chickwit (she hasn't been able to get her post on here) But Friday morning her baby Harley went for the pre-op bloodwork and everything was good. He was ready to go for the neutering and get a tooth pulled. Saturday morning she picked him up. The vet said that he never licked so they didn't need to have an e-collar. Linda picked up some onsies so that he wouldn't bother the area. She checked him and the area looked a little swollen but not red or anything. Well she checked him again at dinner and the sack was all red, like blood at the surface right under the skin. She checked it alittle while later and the red area moved up towards his penis (it looks serverly bruised to me). She called the vet and the vet told her it was from him licking, well there's no way since he's had the onsie on the whole time and was being watched like a hawk. So all the vet said was that he has seen this in 1 out of 20 dogs. Never told her what "this" was. He is though sending a prescription for pain pills and an antibiotic to her pharmacy. The poor baby. you can see how painful it looks in the pictures. anyway have any of you guys ever had this happen to your baby? Please, she's able to read the responses but for some reason can't post this. |
i am not a pro but looks to me like blood under the skin i would go to and emergency with him if it is getting bigger also be ware of the pain meds some get very sick from those... i sure hope someone will see ur pix and know more about it I hope he will be okay poor little one ... |
hi, i asked someone else and they think u should go for help with him asap it is not looking good ... I am so very sorry the poor little one ... |
Working w/rescue I've seen numerous males after neutering and some do bruise more than others. I've not seen any quite this bad though, if that's bruising (it's hard for me to tell from pictures). How is he acting? Is he eating, and alert, are his gums pink? I would most likely have the vet check him today. |

This looks like a hematoma - and it doesn't look too swollen, which is good. This blood will likely just be reabsorbed. IF it is very swollen - OR if it becomes more swollen, then you want to go to the vet right away. It's like - when you get a very bad bruise (or, have a post-surgical bruise), a bruise is actually a little bit of bleeding of the tiny vessels - they stop, and the bruise goes away in time. Keep an eye on it and just make sure it doesn't continue to swell. :) |
I talked to Linda (chickwit) this morning and poor Harley is swollen alot more and the bruising has spread. She will be taking him to the vet shortly. I will keep you all updated as I find out. |
Sending good vibes for the little one.. so sad... hugs, cArmen in nj |
Thank you! His mommy is so scared and upset right now. He is eating but only by hand and also licking water off of her fingers. |
Ohh wow poor baby hopefully he's in no pain, i have never seen anything like that but it definetly looks like blood under the skin. If shes not to happy with that vet or he's not giving any concrete answers. I would definetly take him to another vet. When i got Rocky Nuetered i was not happy not because of the surgery, but when i picked him up i didnt get to talk to the actual doctor that did the surgery because he was busy. When i took him back to ge his stitches removed i didnt get to speak to anyone. I told the girl that i wanted to talk to the doctor and she told me that i would have to come back. I never went back and wrote them a long letter, and changed Rocky's Vet. I pay good money and if i have a question or want to be reassured about something they should be able to speak to me. That's like us going to the gyno and the doctor not wanting to talk to us. Sorry to get off the subject but i hope that chickwit's baby get's better really soon. Please keep up posted |
Oh my! Prayers for Harley!!! I hope it is nothing. Wah! I just dropped Maximus off for his neuter. |
3 Attachment(s) Here are some pictures taken this morning. They are a little fuzzy but you can see the difference from last night to today |
Yes, this is worse. I'd take him in. We can't have 2 threads going on regarding this - which one do you want open? |
Sorry about that:rolleyes: I'd like to keep this one open. Thank you. |
Since Chickwit is online and this is her baby, I'm going to leave her thread open. :) |
