One more diarrhea question My baby has had very loose stools for about 3 weeks now. The vet says he is worm free, no temp, he eats and drinks normally, and has lots of energy. I haven't changed his food from the brand the breeder was feeding him (Eukanuba). I've tried the pumpkin-it helps a little but it is hasn't stopped. Is there something I should suggest the vet test for? I am worried and don't know what to do  Thanks for any help. :animal-paSergeant and Baxter's mom:animal-pa |
well i'm no vet, and i haven't had my baby for very long but it seems like i have already been through a lot with him. is there any blood or anything in the babys poop? |
If you've had him thoroughly checked out with a clean bill of health, I would change foods. Do some research and decide which way you want to go and then gradually switch him. That particular food or even that particular bag of food just may not agree with his tummy. I would also add a probiotic aid him in digestion. |
Coincidence ;) That's interesting b/c I recently got my pumpkin (10wks old) and he's had soft stool since I brought him home and we were feeding him Eukanuba also...a coincidence maybe. Well we took him to the vet, no worms or anything so they just put him on the ID diet and gave us some pills to help settle his stomach. His stool if still soft sometimes but he hasnt finished all the pills yet. |
Thanks All ! His stool isn't bloody, just loose. I think it might be the food too. Last couple of days I've fed him boiled chicken and pumpkin and it seems to be some better. As a new mom, I don't know what I'd do without the knowledge and experience here. Wish I'd had a site like this when my human boys were babies !:D |
If I were you I would try another food. I think Eukanuba has too much grain in it. |
After 3 weeks of loose stools, I'd move him off of that food immediately. There could be something wrong w/ that particular bag of food. If you have a premium pet food store or feed store near you, I'd consider Orijen, Nature's Variety Instinct, Innova EVO, maybe even Solid Gold. If all you have is Petsmart/Petco - then I'd get Wellness CORE. |
I also had problems with Eukanuba!!! i switched to Royal Canine and his stools hardened right up ... :) but you need to do a gradual change ... i did like a 4:1 mix for about a week... best of luck to you .. I know how frustrating it can be ..also with Eukanuba my 3mnth old puppy was noticablely loosing hair which also seems to be not happening since i switched ... |
Any change in a puppy's diet needs to be done slowly... ;) I am glad your going to find a higher quality food  |
I don't think Eukanuba is a very good food. Check out the sticky on foods, and pick one that seems good for your baby. |
