Wart like blister on top of paw I am going to make TJ an appointment because I noticed a couple of days ago that he has this 'thing' on top of his paw. It is about the size of a pea. It's clear, doesn't seem to have liquid like a blister, but it is definitely not normal to be there. It is on his front paw, and if it were a hand it would be at his pinky knuckle...if that makes any sense at all. I first noticed it about 4 days ago. TJ goes thru phase of biting his nails and licking his entire paw in the middle of the night. I remembered one morning that in the middle of the night he woke me to go pee, and his paw was drenched. So in the morning I check his nails for daggers to cut, and I saw this bump (wart like) that he obviously was licking all night b/c it was red and sore like. I fought him to poor some peroxide on it, he finally gave in and let me. I wanted to trim that hair, but he goes physco with scissors around his front paws, so I just put some neosporine on it. I have been checking every day and it's not red anymore, but it is still sorta there. Anyone have any ideas :confused: |
No ideas in particular, but I would definitely agree to have a vet take a look at it. Maybe it needs biopsied. Does it look at all like a callus maybe? |

Wylie had a growth once on his chin and it really freaked me out. It was like a hard bubble. The vet wasn't too worried about it at all. He said it could be a little wart or cyst and may easily go down on it's own. If it didn't, only then would he think about removing it. Sure enough, within 3 weeks or so - gone! :) It doesn't seem sore or anything does it? The basic signs of infection are redness, pain, heat, and swelling - so if all of those are present, then I'd take him in....otherwise, maybe keep an eye on it for a bit? |

Yes it is like a hard (and a little mushy) bubble. Right on his pinky finger line. Of course he was licking it again, so this morning it was a little red. I washed it with water and put neosporine on it again, b/c it looks like from his licking and then it drying that he made a few tiny little dots of blood, nothing scarey, but I can tell he is irritating it :( I know about Newman and I thought it too, but I am trying not to freak out... |
Not sure on the peroxide because can't it cause tissue breakdown? I'm sure once is fine though. Are you wrapping his paw after you put neosporin on it or are you using an e-collar? It is hard and mushy but what color is it? Can you see through it? Is there pus in it? Callouses wouldn't be that irritating I wouldn't think. If it isn't getting noticeable better, I would let the vet look. |

No I didn't wrap it and no e-collar. I know that's bad, but he is home alone and don't want him to get into trouble with a bandage, etc... He won't lick the neosporine though... It is his skin color and can't really see thru it. I don't see any pus. I am getting scared :( |

He is young. I don't think it is a big issue. As for the neosporin, even if you think he won't lick it, dogs are just too unpredicatable. I would skip it unless you can safely cover it unless the vet wants you to use it. Ellie has licked some before and she's fine but it is just not at all healthy. Her vet specifically says that it should not be licked. |
It may be what is called a "lick granuloma". You really should have a vet check it though as it could be so many other things |
