yorkie knees So i have a almost one year old yorkie. He has been in great health for a long time. Well long time being till 1 month before his 1st birthday. He turns one in a few days. I have noticed that he has problems going up steps sometimes where he falls. Then he limps around the house afterwards. This has been in the last month. I took him in to the vet, he has the luxating patella problem. Yeah, i was kinda upset about this. I know its common in allot of yorkies. The vet said it was a thing for life. My biggest concern is, he is so active and loves to play. He constantly runs around the house then, limps for a bit. What Can i do. They gave me some pain pills, but these usually only dull pain. I love him and want to make him not feel the pain. Does anyone have this situation with their yorkie, is there anything I can do to alleviate the pain, and how do you work with this being that he is not even one years old and it is this bad? I mean is this something I can take up with the breeder? |
Did the vet talk about a glucosamine supplement? A dog this young who needs pain meds for LP probably needs surgical correction. What grade is it? |
I was told it was a level 4. I am not sure and don't know much about this. Is there websites that talk about what you can do and things of that. No they didn't go into that. All they said is you shouldn't breed him. I mean this was banfield at Petsmart. SO I am not sure how great these Dr's are. |

do you know what the surgery on that cost. I am seeing 3,000 on allot of things I am looking at. I think I will definatly see a new vet. Banfield was the puppy program I set him up on. The shots were cheap and they covered the basics of puppy treatment for only a rate of $15 a month. |

If he has a stage four in both knees, he needs surgery. The sooner you do it, the better to prevent arthritis. In the meantime, start giving him a good joint supplement like Cosequin. |
Pebbles had knee surgery today My Pebbles is 9 years old and we have known since she was 1 1/2 years old that she had bad patellas. It became much worse in the last few months. An orthopedic surgeon from a nearby town comes to my vets office every other week to do surgery. It cost $808.00 for her right knee. She is doing well so far tonight. Because she also has liver shunt and Lupus I was afraid she might not do okay, but she is really a fighter. Good luck. Do see a specialist. One of my old poodles had surgery from just a regular vet. His leg was permanently fused in a bent position. Maybe the vet had nothing to do with it, but I have always wished I had tried a specialist |
