My Yorkie is depress and loosing weight Hi, i have a 1 year old male Yorkie (Pixel). Unfortunately he fears from other dogs (after a German Shepherd bite him). he is potty trained and he was 2.5 kg. Three weeks ago i have bought a 8 weeks old (female) doberman puppy. i though it may improve the situation however it became worse. the doberman puppy is quit dominant and try to play with pixel. whenever pixel run she tries to bite pixel. I have tried to motivate pixel and give him more attention than before. pixel has lost weight and now he is 1.8 kg. i think he feels that he is not center of attention anymore and he is jealous about that. moreover, he is peeing at home (he has not done it since he was 5 months old). i don't know what to do, do you think i have to talk with his vet? he also shivering and sometimes i feel he has a sore throat. he sleep most of the day. |

The peeing might be him marking and this is different than regular peeing, but when a new dog comes into the pack, the old dog feels it necessary to mark his territory. They don't really think about it, it's an automatic response, much like sneezing and there isn't much you can do about it, except some people use belly bands. The way you can tell the difference is that marking is usually around a tablespoon or less, peeing is much more. Has he been neutered? I do think it's important that he see a vet, weight loss is always an important symptom. The shivering could be a sign of hypoglycemia, and you might want to read up on that. |
I dont know what to tell you. You knew he was afraid of other dogs but you chose to bring another dog in. Now hes losing weight and is nervous. I would rehome the doberman and take Pixel to the vet for a check up since hes lost weight |
Having been through such a traumatic experience he will likely do best in a home with no other dogs. I would definitely have him checked by a vet for the weight loss. |

I don't think it was fair to bring anther puppy when the other is already scared and upset by other dogs. Pixel needs to be seen by a vet to rule out any medical probelms . Then , the other puppy and Pixel need to be separated or one of them will need a new home. :eek: I am sorry it is not working out for the two of them to be together. However, Pixel was there first, and he should not be bitten by the other puppy all the time. The Doberman is going to get a lot bigger and stronger then Pixel .. |
iM JUST CURIOUS WHY YOU GOT ANOTHER DOG WHEN HE IS AFARID OF THEM, AND A DOG THAT WILL BE ALOT BIGGER THAN HIM, IT ALREADY IS. I WOULD BE AFARID AND STRESSED TO |
Why i bought new dog? two months ago i planed to travel far east then i asked a friend of mine to look after pixel for 10 days. he has a golden retriever. he told me the first two days pixel was silent but after a week pixel was sitting close to his dog and sometimes chase his dog. So, i thought if i buy a new dog, maybe after a while pixel accept her (i purposely have bought a female puppy, cause they are less dominant) and he would no longer be alone at home. But it seems i was wrong. Tommorrow i will bring him to vet and keep you posted about that. I already put the puppy in internet for sale, any one interested?;) If no body get it i will give it for adoption. thank you for your kind responses. |

milu is afraid of big dogs as well... i hope you can rehome the big dog. it can be dangerous to have a big dog around especially if you said that she is very playful and pushes the yorkie around. if you are ever considering getting another dog, you should probably consider a dog smaller than your baby, since she is scared of big dogs. and you really need to make sure that the dog has a temperament that will be a good fit for each other. |
There's a big difference between the personalities of an older Retriever and a doberman pup. I think dogs do better with companion dogs, but both personalities, age, size and temperment should be considered. |
Hi all, Thank you for your responses. The doberman puppy has found a new home. Vet told me that Pixel is OK. He is in the process of gaining weight and he is king of our house like before. |
