Updat on Bal Hi. I can't find my original post, sorry. I wrote a few weeks ago about myBall, ten and a half, snapping at everyone for no apparent reason. between holidays and bad waather and broken cars, did get him to the vet. bloodwork came back normal, natch. Not that I Want anything to be wrong but I'd at least like to get a handle on things...he's getting Waay worse and I think need the sedative some days, yikes! He's on phenobarb for "behavioral seizures" which I guess ren't the lay aout and kick type bu a kind where your brain sort of blinks out periodically. Twice a day. Not mch improvement...he was Okay for the first few days but now he's back to normal. They said it coud take a month but I need to do somehting during that month. They haven't returned the call I put in this afternoon yet. Help! anyone ever went through this before/ Thanks. |
Wow. That's scary. I would sure try and get him somewhere else for a second opinion. |
As a Mom to an epileptic I can tell you that medications for seizures often cause behavioral issues. I agree, I'd get a second opinion asap. |

There are a variety of seizure meds out there, and this may not be the right one. Also, it makes me wonder if his liver is metabolizing it correctly. |
Hi again. The bloodwork came back normal..no liver problems but he's not improving. The vet Won't run a sedative with the phenobarb, says it's not safe. I don't know what to do. He says it will take a month for the phenobarb to kcik in..that seems like a long time..and i'm about to lose my place to live if the behavior doesn't get fixed..quick...ad he's Soo tired after it happens. He'll have 2 or 3 fights in succession then just crash out for the rest of the night, then tomorrow it's the same all over again. Not sleeping through a full night either. I mean this isn't normal Ball behavior. My family is pushing for him to be p.d. I can't do it. I ust can't take a life without finding out all options. Suggestiions..natural remedies...funds for low income vet help? Thanks. |
It's not uncommon for them to be exhausted after. Are you saying he's still having seizures even though he's on medication? It does take 3-4 weeks for their blood levels to even out. However, he should have an emergency med (usually in the valium family) to stop the seizures from happening until it does. I don't mean to scare you but each seizure he has does more and more damage :( If at all possible, I would get a second opinion. Good Luck! |
