Who has a home remedy for a dry cough? For about a week our Maximus has a dry cough. First it was only every other day once a day but since yesterday he coughs more often and longer until he throws up some mucus. We were at the Vet today and she said it might be allergies. He got a antihistamin and had already 2 pills of that. The cough doesn't get better though and it is so painful to watch him. We will go back to the vet Monday morning but in the meanwhile I'd like to give him something to soothen the cough... Does anybody have an idea what I could do? |
So I assume the vet ruled out kennel cough? I have heard other say they put them in a room with a humidifier (sp?) or in the bathroom with a hot shower running. You can put vicks in the humidifier as well. Poor baby!! |
Put a huge pot of water on the stove and turn it on. Keep it full and it will humidify the house for the puppy AND it will hydrate the family too! |
Thanks! That makes sense I'll do that! |
You can put a drop of vanilla and/or cinnamon in it too. Whole house will smell good. But warning, it will make you hungry |

It does sound like allergies...This happened to Miko at the beginning of 2008, and it turned out that he was allergic to a new blanket that I had bought (not for him, it was mine)...I hadn't washed it yet, and I guess even having it in the same room as him was causing him problems...As soon as I figured out it could be the blanket (since it was the only different thing since he started the dry hacking cough followed by throwing up white foam), I eliminated the culprit, and he recovered quickly...No more coughing at all. The only thing that will make it go away for good is finding out the root of his problems. Have you bought anything new for the house? rug, blanket, clothes, new detergent, etc? Hope your baby gets better soon. |
