Post-op random weeing - help??
 
:confused: Lucy was spayed on Monday and we've had no problems at all since. However, there is one thing which bothers us slightly (which may or may not be related to the op): She's started weeing (and pooping) in the kitchen, usually just a few feet from her puppy pad. I wondered if it was just that her bladder is a bit 'iffy' after the op and she just doesn't quite make it - but my dear husband reckons it's almost as if she's challenging us somehow. Lucy does use the pad 90% of the time, but misses (or avoids) it since the op. Anyone know why this might be? She was good as gold before spaying - so I'm sticking with my theory of bruised / iffy bladder, but I'd be glad to know if any YTers have experienced anthins similar?

Since she just had major abdominal surgery, I don't think she is challenging you. Everything does get moved around or touched in there and it may take some time for things to normalize. Urinary incontinence is one of the risks of spaying but it doesn't seem to be too common long-term. It would be possible for her to have gotten a urinary tract infection after surgery also, so she may have a hard time making it to her pee pad. Your vet might want to do a urinalysis or they may say to wait awhile. I would call and ask what they would like you to do. :)

Thanks for that - it makes me feel better, and I'll call my vert this evening to ask her advice.

This is probably very normal. What a lot of vets don't tell you is that incontience can be a side effect of the spay surgery. Most times it is temperory but it can sometimes be a permanent thing. Sice she's getting at least close to her pad I think she will be fine in a couple weeks

We had this same problem with our Abby for a couple of days after she was spayed. Before her operation she was doing great with ringing bell to go outside and potty. But for two days after she peed and pooped in the kitchen seemingly without a second thought. She even pooped right at my feet once. She is back to normal now!
