Dealing with spay and the empty home My baby girl went in yesterday and I didn't realize how much my husband and I would miss her! I knew she'd be at the vets overnight, which I wasn't too happy about, but I don't think I ever imagined how empty the house would feel without her! It has been terrible without her, and I can not wait to pick her up today! :aimeeyork She made it through fine and this was great to hear yesterday but not seeing her has us feeling down. :( I'm curious to know what others experiences have been with the spay/neuter situation. Any advice/suggestions for post op (other than lots of kisses :p)? |
1 Attachment(s) oh, I am so sorry, my baby girl went to be spayed too yesterday, you need to get some baby onesies and keep ready for when she gets home, make a little slit on the back for the tail, that will keep her from licking the stiches and it will keep them clean. my baby also came home with antibiotics and pain medication, she came home yesterday evening, my vet does not keep them overnight. I got something call pill pockets at the pet store to give her her pills. other than that you just have to make her as confortable as posible and let her heal..I have attached a picture of my Prada in her onesie, Prada hates that e collar that they put at the vet's.. hugs, cArmen in nj |
My baby Lucy was spayed on Monday. I, too, has bought a supply of onesies, but through some Houdini-style manourvreing, she always managed to wriggle out of them. This doesn't bother me, though, as she's never worried her stitches (and I've never seen such a clean, and tidy wound). Lucy was more sleepy than usual the day after the op (our vet always keeps little ones in overnight, too) - but she's now back to her usual bat-out-of-hell playing, with no side effects. I do have one slight concern (maybe not spay-related) - but will post under another thread. (See post-op random weeing) |

I am glad she will be coming home soon. She should be doing pretty good since she stayed the night. I brought mine home the same day and they were pretty wiped out. But by the next day feeling a little better. |
I brought Cassi in for her to be spayed a few months ago and I know exactly how you feel. She had to stay overnight and my DH and I missed her terribly. We picked her up the next day and she was so happy to see us. Definitely pick up some onesies, they were a life saver for me. Cassi also managed to wiggle out of her onesies, so I had to stitch the shoulder part where the slit is so that she couldn't take it off. :D |
I was a complete wreck when Sasha had to go in to be spayed. Just like you said, I never imagined how empty & quiet our house seemed without her being there. What even made things worse was when she came home, we had to leave her about an hour later because we had an event to be at, so the entire time I was away, I was freaking out & worried the entire time, but by the looks of it when we came home, she had just slept the entire time. I felt so bad about leaving her & I was so worried about her recovery that I called into work the next day to be home with her. She was really good about not licking her sutures which was a definite good thing. After about a day or so, she was back to her normal self. That was back in the summer. Now, when she rolls over & I get a chance to look at where the scar should be, you pretty much can't even tell that it's there anymore. The vet did an amazing job with her. Your baby will be just fine & will be healed in no time! |
My baby is home!! happy mommy with an update! She did great! She was very excite to see me (tail wagging crazily :D). I'm soooooo glad she's home, and that everything went well. Thank you for your well wishes and advice! She also had 4 teeth extracted, so I softened her food with warm water and she ate all of it! The worst part is the e collar, I think I hate it just about as much as she does. :p We bought her a new toy last night with the anticipation that it would distract her from the collar and for now it seems to be working! As soon as my hubby gets home, I'm going to get the onesies! Thanks again! |
