Ear infection Hello and Happy New Year! Prissy is scratching her right ear alot. However it doesn't smell nor is it runny or oozing anything. Any thoughts on what it could be? She doesn't seem to be in any pain--just really itchy in the mornings. However, she is still super hyper, eating anything she can find and instagating crimes with her sister. Anyways, I have two appointments on monday morning at the vet--both girls are supposed to get spayed. So I will take to the vet about it when we go in. I hope all is well and that we can still go ahead with the spaying. Kate |
It could be ear mites or a yeast ear infection. Let us know what the vet says. |
It could be the start of an ear infection as well, sometimes when debris starts to build up they will scratch and paw at the ear. When the infection starts to develop they will usually shake their heads. If you have some ear wash, I would do a cleaning on her and see if it helps at all. Maybe every other day or every 2 days until you get to the vet. |
I had a vet in our area tell me to always have on hand Lotrime liquid not the cream (for foot fungus) put a couple of drops in each ear and it will cure any Yeast Infection. WOW it works everytime they have a Yeast infec. Scotties are notorious for having ear problems usually happens 5 days after I give him his bath. WATER that stays in the ear will cause this. Their ears smell and have dark color wax. These symptoms are common with ear mites also. It will also clear that up. A drop of Olive Oil is also good for mites..Good Luck hope this helps.... |

Thanks so much! The girls are at the vets right now. Mom used to use olive oil on us when we had ear problems as a kid. |
They vet said that it "looked a bit red" (duh) gave her some Surolan ear drops. |
I switched my dog to Orijen Dry Adult. The lady at Champion Foods where this dog food is made said that a family memeber of hers ( a brother I think) has 2 yorkies and 1 had very bad ear infections. It switched to the grain free Orijen diet and the ear infections cleared up and have never come back. I would always check with my vet but it may be the food you are using. Mine was on Wellness and had alot of loose stools and diarrhea. We switched to Orijen and it stoppped almost immediately and the poops are much better. Good Luck! |
I took my little Roxy (11 weeks old) to the vet yesterday cos she seemed to be scratching her ears in the evenings, I did some investigating for fleas and she was clear but turns out she has an ear infection too. The vet said 1 in 5 puppies that go into see her have ear infections!! So I've to put drops into her ears twice a day and go back in two weeks. Other than the scratching she didnt have any other symptons, she's still her normal inquisative self. Poor little puppy, I had my first ear infection last month and was in so much pain  |
