Last night I found a tick on Mia. I think it came up on some fire logs that we had stacked near the woods because we haven't had a problem before. I freaked out! I didn't really know the best way to remove it so I gently just pulled it out with the tweezers. Then I put some antibiotic ointment on it. It was small and no blood in it when I killed it so I don't think it had been there long but it seem to be well attached. Should I call the vet? He has her on revolution which I thought was for flees, ticks and heart worms. She weighs less that 5 lbs and I think that is the reason that is the one he chose. I'm going to ask him to change her but today is a holiday and Mia seems fine I just don't know if I should just keep and eye on her or if she need some sort of emergency treatment before Monday when he gets back in the office. Help

She most likely will be fine without a vet visit. I would just watch the bite area and if it looks infected, inflamed or not healing, then contact your vet. From my understanding Revolution doesn't keep them from getting ticks, fleas, but will kill them once they've bit your dog.

I would watch the area. If it seems to be getting worse, or bigger I'd go to the vet.

I live in Connecticut where ticks are the norm. We live a couple towns away from Lyme where The tick related Lyme Disease got its name. Even though my Piper is on a tick preventive she will still get ticks they just don't really attach and feed. The only tick I worry about is the teeny deer tick because it carries the Lyme Disease. Most of the ticks are just the dog ticks which can leave a nasty little sore if it was attached too long. I usually remove the tick with tweezers and then clean the area with hydrogen perioxide then dap on some neosporin. Sometimes the bite will leave a bump and it will take weeks for it to go away. If I remove a deer tick I really watch for symptoms, fever, pain, limping. Everybody in my family has had Lyme Disease at least once. My first yorkie had it twice even though he had the shot. Piper is 8 months old and she hasn't had it.
