Sick with a cold A friend had a small yorkie just walk into her back door the other day. She has been searching for "lost" ads and nothing yet. It appears as if she has a really bad cold, coughing and snot bubbles coming out of its nose. She has tried to get it into a vet but we dont have any emergency vets around and nobody will see her till Friday. Does anyone have any suggestions or home remedies. Thanks....... |
If it's an infection, you need antibiotics... I'm glad you're headed to the vet asap. In the meantime, best treatment for a cold that I know of is making a cave with towels around the dog's crate, and putting a hot steam vaporizer with vicks in the water in the cave with the dog (make sure it's outside the crate though, so he can't burn his lil nose on the steam). It turns into a fabulous little sauna inside the cave! If you don't have a crate or something that would work like one, at least put the vaporizer with vicks closeby (but out of reach) where the dog will sleep. And keep the dog warm too, as much as possible. My vet reminded me when my pup got kennel cough that the air along the floor where dogs walk is usually at least a few degrees colder than how we experience the temperature of a room as tall humans. I haven't tried this yet, but my vet also told me I could get one of those baby booger-suckers and use it really really carefully to help with a super clogged up nose. Good luck finding this little one's home... I hope his sniffles get better too! :-) Lauren & Nikko |
Definitely a vet visit ASAP. In the meantime when mine had kennel cough the vet said to take them into the bathroom and run the shower and the steam will help clear their passages. Is her breathing ok? If not I would worry about pneumonia. Hope she finds the owners and can get her to a vet. |
