HELP! Throwing UP! NEED REPLIES ASAP! Okay, this might not be THAT big of a deal, but I am SO worried right now. I took Baxter to the vet earlier today to get his second round of shots, and just a few minutes ago he threw up for the second time. A LOT! Big yellow nasty stuff. And I don't know if he's going to do it again, or if it's a reaction to something the vet gave him, or what the heck it is. Anbody have any comments? He's only thrown up twice, and he is still playing and acting normal. I don't know what to do. :( |
Sorry I'm not expert but I would just keep an eye on him. Mine have also thrown up after receiving shots which I would say is not that uncommon...but if it keeps up, like throwing up every hour in a few hours time, i would be concerned. Make sure he's drinking water so he doesn't get dehydrated. In the meantime, make sure you know the number to and where your emergency animal clinic is should you need them. Good Luck and again, it's always good to be an alert and concerned mommy but I would say not ot panic just yet. Hopefully someone else with more info will reply as well. |
Thank you for the very quick reply! I will keep an eye on him, and make sure he has plenty of water. I have the number and place right here for the emergency vet. :) |
No problem..I was going to add that another sign something may be wrong is if he should get a temperature, the shakes, etc. Not sure what type of shot it was but usually mine are extra tired afterwards. You may also want to check the area where he got the shot. It may still be alittle sore but just to make sure he hasn't gotten any type of allergic reaction or anything. I'm sure he's fne though.....:) Cuddle up with him tonight and give him extra snuggles & hugs. |
Do you know what shots Baxter got? Did he get lepto? It's the "L" in a combo shot. If he got the lepto vaccine today, I'd call the ER clinic now and explain the situation. We had a puppy here just today have a similar reaction (vomiting) to the lepto in his shot. She had to rush him back to the vet who gave him a shot of steriods and another one of Benadryl. Here's the thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ml#post2393856 |
Okay please keep an eye on him. I am NOT trying to scare you, but my Chip has BAD vaccine reactions. His first one was just diaherria. The second, third, and fourth reaction he almost died and each time the reactions happened faster. If he keeps throwing up, take him to the vet. They can give him a shot (tagament?) for nausea if it's mild. |
I am hoping he is doing better now. |
Looking for an update ...... |
Thanks so much for the replies so fast! I kept a close eye on him last night. He didn't throw up anymore after my post, and acted like nothing had happened. He was unusually tired and slept late this morning. He wasn't shaking, or acting unusual, except the fact he was really tired. He didn't get a Lepto shot: he got the corona, distemper, and puppy parvo shot(s). Which, he got all of these last time and had diahria. Also, the vet gave him cookie treats, which might have also upset his stomach. I've been playing with him this morning and he is acting fine. It must have been something he ate, or who knows? But he is definitely better. He is eating and drinking water normally. Actually, I just took him outside, and it was really windy. He has never been in the wind before and just sat there, shaking his head and trying to bite it. Finally he ran back inside, because he must not have liked it very much. LOL. Anyways, thank y'all so much for the quick and helpful replies. Does everyone think he'll be okay now? |
I'm glad to hear is is okay! Corona isn't a core vaccine and can cause reactions, so I'd skip it in the future. There is a very low risk of your Yorkie getting Corona. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...a-vaccine.html |
Oh wow, you know what I just remembered? I took him over to my mom's house yesterday. She has two cats, and he actually ate some of their cat food! Not a lot, because I caught him doing it, (twice) but I wonder if that was why he threw up. You think? |
Thanks ladymom! Really? The vet just gives him his shots, doesn't ask me about it... I never thought about him not needing any of his shots. Thanks for the advice! |

I'm glad he's okay. Sometimes dogs do get slight reactions and makes them kind of sick but I always get nervous when someone says "shots" and "sick" in the same sentence. |
Glad to hear he's doing better  |
