My lil Maxie is 9 years old and has recently started getting a dark brown waxie type stuff in her ears ... it has a slight oder that comes and goes ...I'm thinking its a wax build up but hopeing its not a yeast infection... she doesn't scratch her ears... i'm wondering if any one has advice on what to use to clean it and if thier lil babies have ever experienced this problem... Thanks.. Ray.. Maxie.. Rex... |
There can be 2 types of infections with the ears, either yeast, or bacteria. Usually with yeast its a white, yellowish color, and with bacteria it is black and brown. I would probably tell you to maybe call the vet, and see if they can do a ear swab test, where they just use a q-tip and swab each ear, put the debris on a slide, and look for ear mites, or infection, so they can give you the correct medicine to use for the infection. If your baby gets groomed as welll, you may want to make sure they are doing ear plucking- getting all that extra hair out of the ear canal. I would tell you to not use q-tips since you will push back all the debris back in the ear canal! Call the vet! Good Luck!!!! :D |
It may be yeast but that can make them quite itchy. Have you tried just cleaning them? If that doesn't work/it comes right back, she does need to see the vet. If this is a new thing and she doesn't really get dirty ears, I'd just go to the vet now. We use Chlorhexiderm Flush here for ear cleaner but there are lots of good ones. If you think it could be something besides yeast, you may want to hold off on using cleaners in case they do further damage or cause pain... |
I use an ear cleaner when I give a bath every week and wipe the inner ear with a cotton ball |
