Tonsillitis? Hi all, Maybelline got sick over the holidays. It began on Christmas with runny bowels and then throwing up. I had changed to a cook at home recipe found here and adding a supplement about three weeks ago but this started several weeks after the diet change. I know my husband had been feeding her fried turkey Christmas day and I asked him to stop but then he told me yesterday that he was still giving her some. Anyway, he took her to the vet this AM and he said he examined her thoroughly and said she had tonsillitis. I have never heard of a dog getting tonsillitis, but about 2 weeks ago I had a severe case of tonsillitis and was hospitalized for a week. Is it possible for dogs to pick up our germs? This is really weird... The vet gave her an antibiotic IM and then we are to continue by mouth for 10 days. Thankfully he also did a culture because I really thought for sure it was pancreatitis due to the fried turkey. |
Tonsilitis Hey there...I believe animals can catch germs that we humans have. Especially if you snuggle with your pet. As far as the fried turkey goes, I don't recommend giving a house dog human food. Not good for their digestive system. But that is just my opinion. Good luck and I hope your baby gets to feeling better.:aimeeyork |
Thats not true> My vet told me that dogs cant catch viral or bacterial infections from us |
With those symptoms, did the vet do a Spec cPL to rule out pancreatitis. It sounds very possible after eating even one bite of fried turkey. |
yes, dogs can get tonsillitis. My first yorkie got it evry spring and fall but not from humans. The onlt thing I ever heard of possibly being passed back and forth is strep and I don't know if that is true or not |
It was strep throat I had and I let it go too long before seeing the doctor; so I got to spend a few days in hospital. Glad to know some others have experienced tonsillitis with their pups. I had never heard of that before today. However, I am still leaning towards pancreatitis because it showed up the same time she started eating the fried turkey, but I will not go against the vet this is his patient not mine. I hate when my patients try to doctor themselves or their kids; so I know my boundries. |

If the correct test has been done to rule out pancreatitis, then I would be more confident with the diagnosis. Maybe your Yorkie has both. |
