sick guy Had to take my Russell to emergency hosptial, has had bad diaherra since Fri and then turn to bloody last night, and then this morning jelly blood. They said has hga.Does anyone know anything about this? |
omg im so sorry. i dont know anything bout this but he is my prayers. |
Lady's had HGE three times. Thank heavens you took him to the vet. They can go downhill in just a few hours and die if not treated quickly. Their blood thickens and clots up, plus they can go into cardiac arrest. Did your vet say what his packed volume was? The first couple of times Lady's was borderline, but the last time it was really high. I nearly lost her. Here is some information. Everyone should know what signs to look out for as toy breed dogs are prone to it. Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE) |
He said it was advanced case,he through all these numbers out to me,But I was so up set I quess I really did not understand it. his some thing was 65 and suppose to be 40? They are giving him a blood trasfusion right now and they will call me later. Is is come for this to happen again? |
thanks so much for caring enogh to tell me this |
It was probably his packed volume that was 65. In dogs with HGE, the packed volume is between 60-75. The first two times Lady had it it was right about 60 and she recovered pretty quickly. This past time hers was 75 and I nearly lost her. If you read the article I posted, you will see possible causes of HGE that could make it reoccur. |
I am sorry to hear your baby is so scik. I will keep him in my prayers for a full recovery. |

:bravo: Wonderful news!!!!!!!! Do they have him on an antibiotic? |
Yorkie hge My Verdelle has been so sick over the last 2 months with HGE, vomiting jelly blood and pooping out his red blood cells, my 14 year old son witnessed this and I am sure you can imagine how horrific it was for him to see our furbaby so sick. We had Verdelle to the vet overnight and then 2 days later back again for 2.5 days more of IV therapy, he recovered with some antibiotics and back to regular diet, than, 3 weeks later, sick again, we caught it so quick, 2 days on IV and 10 days on antibiotic, just the week before Christmas, he is doing well now, we hope, I don't think we can do it again to be honest, I was beside myself with stress over the holidays as our vet wants him on Medi-cal bland diet only and nothing, absolutely nothing else for a minimum of sick months so with Christmas and treats and kids spilling on the floor I was pretty on edge. He seems to be better, but we went thru this before, we don't know what caused it, his treats and people food habit or something else, he was so very sick, he couldn't lift his head, he just wanted me and I couldn't stay over at the vet, we went in several times to the Animal Hospital to feed him as he wouldn't eat without us. I'm sorry to go on but this was so very horrible, do not play with this, your baby can die-and it happens so fast and they dehydrate so quickly, our Verdie is 7 pds and within hours he was very down, I can't imagine a real tiny Yorkie having this when they have nothing to lose-be careful, right to the Vet, the jelly they are pooping and vomiting is their blood-they overproduce blood cells to try to help the dehydration and it can be fatal-treatment is IV therapy, NOT SUBQ fluids, and antibiotics to heal the belly when the food can be kept down, this is not a quick fix, make sure they send your baby home healthy the first time, we had a nightmare experience with our dog and no one should have to see their pet go thru this once let alone twice in 3 days and then again 3 weeks later. Lots of info online, read it-pls!!!:aimeeyork |
