HELP! My puppy has gotten the coughs... hey YORKiE LOVERS/OWNERS! My little boy is 7 months and due to the weird change of weather he's starting to catch a cold [sneezing.coughing.etc] I was wondering if theres any medication that I can buy at a pet store or a drug store that'll help him?? I would take him to the vet but I'm in the process of finding him a new vet to go to! I hate the vet he has now cause I feel as if she's lost or confused the last time he had the coughs she charged me a FAT bill due to the fact that she was acting clueless and made me give my poor baby 5 different cough syrup while he was on medication for other problems which made him super unactive and very quiet! So please let me know if I can get him something that'll help him while he's playing throughout the day. |
He may have kennel cough. Sometimes the vet prescribes anti biotic to ward off pneumonia. For the congestion you can take him into a steam filled bathroom...the steam will loosen the mucus. Or you can use a warm steam mist vaporizer with Vick's in it. If he's coughing a lot...a teaspoon of honey will soothe an irritated throat |

He probably needs to see a vet and get antibiotics so it won't get worse. |
I agree. This is a perfect time to try out a new vet. He probably does have kennel cough and if I remember correctly, I think antibiotics are the only way to treat it. |
he's now makng hacking noises and it sounds like he's congested and there's mucus stuck in his throat.. Can I give him anything that'll help for early this morning? His vet appointments been pushed off till tomorrow morning! |

I tried but they are full, and she said unless I want to bring him in as an emergency vet visit then it's more pricey! |
Other than a hacking cough...is he acting normal? If he isn't...I highly recommend not waiting to take him in. The steam filled room or vaporizer I suggested above with help with the congestion. |
If he isn't eating or drinking normally...it's quite possible for him to become dehydrated. That happens more quickly than you think. If his gums feel tacky to the touch...he's dehydrated. The vet will give him fluid via an IV. |
Check his gums to see if they are normal colored. If they are white, take him to the vet because he's getting dehydrated. If he's acting lethargic then he needs to be seen. If he's acting normal and eating/drinking, then he should be alright for now. |
Kennel Cough My little Kasey developed kennel cough, and I didn't realize it... by the time it was diagnosed (last week) it had turned into pneumonia. She was on a nebulizer every 12 hours for the last eight days, but is now much better. They also gave her an IV to hydrate her. I hope you have good luck finding a good vet, and in the meantime that you can have your pup seen by any vet ASAP.... Let us know how you do! |
he's acting fine... Nothings change just the hacking noise and a lttle sneezing. He eats and drinks like usual. |
