I would take her to your nearest vet asap. I would also post this in the Breeders section. You might get more answers there. |

Sounds like eclampsia. here's a link with info Eclampsia (Puerperal Tetany, Milk Fever, Hypocalcemia) in Dogs. You must get some calcium into your girl. There's a recipe for whelping pudding which is very good to help restore her. Do a search here on YorkieTalk for it. Eclampsia is also called milk fever and is recommended the pups be supplemented rather than nurse. She really should see a vet but if that's not possible get calcium in that girl NOW. Ice cream can be used also and there are calcium supplements available at pet stores. DO NOT let this condition go untreated. It is very serious. |
It does sound like eclampsia. I would not take the chance. She really needs to see a vet for her safety. |
I just found another article on eclampsia. Pretty scary and nothing you should try to treat yourself. Mom needs to get to the vet asap. Eclampsia In The Dog, Milk Fever, Puperal Tetany, Hypocalcemia... At ThePetCenter.com |
I see the OP is logged off. Hopefully she is making the trip. Maybe she saw some of the posts and tried to get some calcium in her before leaving. Every hour without some kind of treatment only makes it worse. |
Has anyone heard anything? Did she take the mom to the vet? |
Assuming you are in Hopkinsville, KY as you write, there is definitely more than one vet located there. There are also emergency facilities in Evansville, IN and in Nashville, TN. It takes me 2.5 hours to get from Nashville, TN from Evansville, IN and I pass Hopkinsville mid-way. Hope mom is doing OK, sounds like eclampsia and that is definitely an emergency. |
