Slip on the ice Is it possible for a 9 lb dog to pull or hurt a muscle or hips slipping on the ice. General Lee slipped on the ice a couple of times a day ago. Today when we went out, he was not his usual peppy self. He has not eaten and did not eat his cherrios treat. I noticed that he has been shivering when out ( he did not do that last year as a pup). I went to rub his back and when I massaged lightly his hips he nipped at me. Not hard, more of a "that hurts" he did not yip so it is not a strong pain, but his tail is down and he does seem to have a bit of an arch in his back. Any ideas? |
He absolutely could have pulled a muscle or a tendon. The fact that he isn't acting like himself makes me think you might be best to run him over to the vet just to make sure, I am sure there would be some anti inflammatory's that the vet could perscribe that would make him feel better. The not eating is what worries me the most, that usually means the dog is in pain or really feeling unwell. If that continues for more than a day or two, definitely take him in just to be sure! Hope he feels better soon, poor thing! Winter is just not fun! |
Ouch..sounds like a trip to the vet is needed for a check up and possibly some anti-inflammatories. I'm sure it is possible for your little chap to have pulled a muscle, or strained something. Best to get it checked before the christmas hols. |
Sounds like he pulled a muscle or hurt is back. Sometimes when they have a tummy ache they arch their back too. Hoping he feels better soon. |
Thanks for the responses. He is nibbling now and seems to have a bit more energy. I think he may have hurt himself and when we went back outside the cold really hurt him. The floors in the house are cold also. I noticed that he is staying curled up on the couch, the chair or in a blanket. He won't wear any clothing so I can't put a sweater on him. We have moved his crate with a sheet and blanket into his x-pen when we leave so that he has a warmer place to go. If it does continue I will take him to the vets. I noticed last night he stayed under the covers pretty much all night right next to my legs which is the warmest place. He came out a couple of times and went right back under. The cold may be bothering him a lot this year. Tomorrow we will not be going out at all as they are predicting wind chills of -20. |
