Please Help Hercules This Could Be Fatal I Adopted A Runaway Male Yorkie Last Year He's About 7 Yrs. Old According To Vet.)--hercules Has Just Recently Become Afflicted With Some Type Of Illness That Is Causing The Temporary Loss Of Use Of His Hind Legs (almost Like He's Paralyzed-only Sometimes It's Just One Leg He Favors), Or Temporarily Loses Control Of Both Legs Like His Hind Section Is Paralyzed. He Is Also Licking Excessively, Symptoms Are Excessive Panting And Licking(like He's Licking His Lips--almost Like He Has Somethingin His Throat-almost Like He's Gagging Or Has A Bad Taste In His Mouth) The Onset Of These Symptoms Was Sudden-starting About A Week Ago And They Occur Maybe 3-8 Times A Day. Please Tell Me How To Help My Hercules--i Love Him So Much Thank You |
I am so sorry! I know you are terrified for your baby. I had a simillar thing happen to my toy poodle years ago except for the gagging! My vet sent her to Auburn University Veterinarian School because he wasn't equipped to help her. She was paralized from her front legs back. Turned out she had a disc that was pinching due to jumping off my neighbor's sofa onto a hardwood floor. A team of Neuro docs treated her with "cage therapy" for several weeks and then she had several weeks of recouperation at home and finally was as good as new. They told me that, had the therapy not worked, she would have had to have surgery on her back. They also said that the first thing they did was literally go over her with a "fine tooth comb" to make sure there was no tick on her anywhere. Seems that this condition can also be caused by a tick bite that causes this type paralysis. If I were you, I would suggest to my vet that he please refer her to one of your universities there. I know there are some excellent ones in Atlanta. This may not be remotely contributing to your babies condition, but just a suggestion. I will keep little Hurcules in my prayers. Please keep us updated! |
Hercules has been having symptoms for a week now? Oh please take him to see his vet. I hope Hercules will be feeling better soon. |
This really does sound serious - has he been to the vet yet ? There are a few posts on some serious illnesses in this section - I don't want to scare you though - I think your best option is get him to a vet asap and see what they say...it could be so many things that I won't say anything except GOOD LUCK and please come let us know what your vet says ! It's so scary but many things ARE treatable....I truly hope it's nothing fatal and my prayers are with your Hercules. |
The licking the air isn't serious, most yorkies do that from time and for no apparent reason. You say he has temporary loss of use of one or both back legs. Have you taken him to the vet, it sounds as if it could be his knees slipping out. He's about the right age for knee problems. He could be panting because of the pain, that's how dogs deal with pain, stress. |
My mom's dog, snickers was lomping one day and it turned oiut to be Lymes diesease!!! Went to the vet and he is like brand new. PLease go to the vet and have it checked out!! |
I just saw this thread for the first time. How is Hercules? Please post an update. I sure hope the vet figured out what was wrong and was able to help him. |
Poor little Hercules! I hope he is doing better and the Vet had some answers for you! I'll say a prayer! |
I'm sorry about Hercules. Please post an update. I had a friend who one day woke up and their dog was paralyzed. The dog had a tick in it's nose. They got it out and the dog was fine. |
I hope Hercules is better. |
