At Ellie's old vet office an office call was $38, U/A was $25ish, antibiotics $16ish, culture $90, xray $80 and then an U/S... Dogs are so expensive. |

Lady needs a refill on her phenobarbital and thyroid medication. I called my vet this morning and found out it's been a year so she is due for a recheck on both (they have to check pheno levels in the blood periodically to make sure it is not toxic.) She'll be due for her heartworm check in a few months so I will just get the one blood draw and have it all done together. The pills are cheap, probably $30 total for a 60 day supply, but with the bloodwork, I expect my bill to be between $200-250. And I thought I was just going to spend $30 to refill a couple of prescriptions! I had to chuckle when in another thread one member didn't believe that a dog really costs $1,000 a year or $15,000 minimum over its lifetime! BTW, they said those figures were based upon Midwest prices which are the lowest in the country so be glad you live in Michigan! |
idk what to tell you but i just wanted to say have faith god will see you thru this...its going to be ok |
Have you tried a Humane Society in your area? They usually cost less than most vets and they will work with you on a price and care for your dog. |

Here in Raleigh, North Carolina they have participating vets who will honor vouchers for low cost spay and neuters, but you have to go to their office. We have vets who do rabies clinics, too. |
God answers prayers Called and asked to speak to vet himself and he said to bring in a fresh culture and he will help me. Had to go to the top dog (vet) but everything is gonna work out. Thanks to all of you and God. |
So hard Shir, I can understand your plight. We had an extremely bad financial year every which way we turned. We recently had Bella spayed when we went to pick her up I handed them my discover card. The receptionist turned to me and said we don't take Discover. I told her I didn't have another card. She told me SORRY we can't release her until the bill is paid in full. I didn't have any cash until the following Friday (7 days away). My daughter was hysterical. I finally had to borrow the 600.00 from my son. They wouldn't even take a postdated check. I don't care who you are in this day and age. Sometime even if you are financially set. Things happen. Sometimes I get upset by some of the comments written. Hope every thing works out for you. :( |

I am so happy that it worked out. Cali has mild MVD (liver shunt) and knock on wood she only had the one UTI and the meds took care of it. She also had crystals in her urine and the meds worked pretty fast. I hope your baby is feeling better in no time!!! |

Be glad we live in North Carolina! |
wow i sure am glad, it will only cost me 150! |
Shir, I am glad things worked out for you. You already spent a fortune on your baby. I hope this is the end of the bills for you for awhile. I always had extra money lying around. When that is all you know it is hard for someone to understand you not having money. Then the company i worked for shut down. i have a new appreciation and empathy for those that are financially tight. my little girl is a year old and i had to find creative ways to pay for her grooming and for her vet bills. i dont post much on this board because of the way you were treated by some people. I got my dog spayed and micro chipped for 85.00 from Mercy Crusades spay and neuter clinic. i have a fancy expensive vet, that i cant always afford. instead i educate myself, network and find a good inexpensive clinic. I have been just plain lucky that my dog has not gotten sick. There were times i would not of been able to afford it. money comes and goes. I have been able to put some away for possible vet bills, but my trust will rest in God taking care of me and my family. if your state does have a lemon law i would talk to the breeder and ask if she can help with some of the bills, and try to get a blood panel done to see how extensive(if any) your fur babies issues may be. I wish you good fortune, please let us know how this turns out for you. i will keep you in my prayers. |

Spay and Baby teeth Bella was spayed and had 4 baby teeth removed, but she was also in a false pregnancy. But every thing is more expensive when you live in NJ, it cost money just to breathe the air. LOL:eek: |

Life is an ever changing event, all we can do is try our best to prepare for it and then deal with it when arrives. I do believe that you got jumped on and I'm sorry for that. Passionate people tend to throw out passionate answers before they are able to see the big picture. You came on to get help and I'm happy you did not turn the other way but stayed to get help for your baby. :) Im glad you were able to talk to your vet directly and I hope you will continue to come back to YT, it is a wonderful place. |
Shir, thank you for the update.... Sending Mia big hugs and hoping she'll be on the mend soon... Kat |

I don't have the money for the tests, I just got a house it couldn't have been a ...better... time for him to get sick. but if i have to go to the ER tonight and pay whatever amount for my baby to get better (or even ask my parents..or boyfriend - if i had one) i would do it. i hope your baby gets better and try investing in pet insurance. it's about 25 dollars a month and will definitely save you on those prescriptions, tests, etc. good luck xo |
