Pooey Question..pumpkin or sweet potato ASAP  I've read many post about pumpkin AND sweet potato aiding in a pup with the runs..... Can i give baby food sweet pototo , has anyone used this before? The only other ingredient is WATER, good right? What's better pumpkin or potato? |
I've only given pumpkin as thats what the vet said to use, and just a little bit on the finger |
I'd also give him a little Kaopectate or Immodium. KAOPECTATE/IMMODIUM (loperamide): Can be given to dogs and cats (1 teaspoon for every 20 pounds) for diarrhea. This dosage can be repeated every 4-6 hours for 24 hours, or until symptoms begin to resolve. OTC Medications Remember, toy breed dogs can dehydrate really quickly from diarrhea. If he doesn't improve within 24 hours, you need to take him to your vet. |
i've only heard pumpkin.. ;) so i'm not much help with the baby food/sweet potatoe question! sorry.. |
He's been to the vet and fecal was negitive...BUT STILL HAS THE RUNS, We are on day 4!! I've posted on a few other threads about my situation, I have flagyl...i'm scared to give because of the side effects. FYI PUP EAT, DRINKS AND VERY PEPPY. He is teething, not sure if this is related, he had 3 doses of Kaopectate, once last night and twice today. It's still VERY soft... Since he shows the signs of all is well, if there are no improvements in the poo tomorrow I'll go ahead and start him on the flagy. From what i read get him on a probotic with it. I only have enough doses for 4 days, what i also read it that, it may take 10-14 days in doses??? Any suggestions, he's been on we haven't changed Chicken Soup food, good stuff? I gave him a few tbs. of I/D vet said, he doesn't like it. Why change the food when they are eating it???? |
Update.... Dudley has firm poo.....YEAH I didn't have to resort to flagly and 4 doses of Kaopectate did the trick. Now just 2 loose front teeth....How long does it take for them to come out?? They've been loose since Monday, each day they get looser.. |
Be careful because you may have loose poopies again. The canned pumpkin adds bulk to the stool. I keep frozen cubes of pumpkin in the freezer for emergency. If there is an infection though, the medication that vet prescribed is necessary. Make sure to verify with you vet before giving any human medications --- Warmly, Deborah |
Medications can be scary and flagyl can actually cause the symptoms that it is supposed to be stopping but if you have problems in the future, I wouldn't hesitate to use it under a vet's supervision. It can work well for some dogs. Side effects can happen as with any med but it is generally considered safe... |
