Yorkie found with almost no hair
 
Hey guys! I found a darling little Yorkie. She is 13 and has multiple things wrong with her. I haven't ever had a Yorkie before. The vet estimates her to be about 13. She is partially blind and has lots of hair loss. They have done skin scraps and no mites turned up. She also had almost all rotten teeth and a tatoo. She looks to be from a puppy mill. She is friendly but gets scared easily. Anyway, the doctor thinks it might be an allergy. Her little belly has some dark patches and I've been bathing her twice a week because she smells awful if I don't. Any idea what this is? Should I get a separate opinion?

First let me welcome you to YT.

Congratulation on you new baby girl. If mites have been ruled out then
it just maybe allergies, possibly to food which is the most common.
I would get her a good food, soft of course due to the loss of teeth.
Corn and chicken are big allergy foods for dogs.
Hope things get better for her, it's tough to be itchy. Also a medicated
shampoo or oatmeal based shampoo may be soothing for her.

Bless your heart for taking her in, she may be from a puppy mill, hense the tatoo, seems kind of a painful thing to do. I've read that yeast infections can give a funky smell, but don't know too much about that, I'm sure someone here can give you more help. Just wanted to welcome you to Yorkietalk, and tell you what a special person I think you are.

I put her on duck and potato soft food from Natural Balance so that if it's food that may that help. I'm doing a medicated shampoo that the doc gave me. She gets oily and smells if not bathed twice a week. I wonder if I should get another opinion.Poor thing won't go potty outside either just in her crate. I'm 90% sure she is a puppy mill dog. I have one puppy mill dog already *smile* she is a maltese same type of tatoo and found around the same place. Think that whoever dumps them after they aren't able to reproduce anymore. I just need all the advice I can get since I'm inexperienced with Yorkies.

Only will poop in her crate, that makes me so sad. This goes against every part of a dog's nature. This just breaks my heart. I wonder if you could have a special crate with a pee pad in it for elimination and another for relaxing. Does she go to her crate to sleep?

Poor honey! How wonderful that you've taken her in! WELCOME to YT! :D

If her smell is that funky, I'd get a skin scraping for yeast, for sure! She could have it externally and internally, esp. if it was left unchecked for a long time. How miserable for her. I'm guessing they're sure it's not mange either? That can be quite rampant at mills.

The duck/potato is a smart food to give right now - nice and simple, easy to digest, good quality. I'd get her on a probiotic right away, esp. if you suspect yeast *at all*. Even if you don't suspect it, she may be having malabsorption (fur loss is a symptom) - and a probio/digestive enzyme can really help these babies.

They also have great vitamins, and honestly - you may want her on one. Vitasorb is a good one. Also, she may have fatty acid deficiences - right now, I'm liking this one.

Aww, poor baby. I just want to say that I I think that is great you have taken in this baby. She definitely deserves a better life. I think the food you have her on is definitely a great start.

She does sleep in her crate and I just wipe her down with baby wipes if she steps in it. I had a small crate for her at first and saw that wouldn't do because of her previous bathroom habits. So I got a enormous crate that half could be relax place and the other half potty. She still refuses though to use outside and most of the time the potty area that I setup. She likes to poo in her bedding. It's been a rocky week and I have been taking her out regularly to prevent this. Up to 10 times a day with walks sometimes lasting for an hour or even more. It will just take time and I have read that some never learn. She is so super sweet it makes me sad that someone would do this to her. I'm also cleaning her crate up to 6 times a day so that it is always clean.

Welcome to you and your new family member. Bless you for giving her a secure loving home. I bet she never had it so good. What did you name her? If your having to clean her bedding six times a day, then maybe she's getting too much to eat. I give mine 1/4 cup twice daily and maybe some yogurt or cottage cheese with a little chopped apple for lunch. I home cook, so they are very regular when they go poo.

Well poo and pee. I have been giving her a little Yogurt but I didn't know they could have cottage cheese as well I may try that. Her poop is normal but just often three times a day.

Did your vet mention seborhhea? A woman once told me her previous Yorkie had that and had dark spots on tummy, very stinky, and hair loss. Here is a link to more info about it:

Oh wow, and the link says that this is hereditary, so if it was a puppy mill dog, lots of the offspring will have a chance of getting it.
