4 Year old Yorkie lost use of legs This morning, my 4 year old Yorkie woke up and kept falling over. He kept trying to stand, but just couldn't get his legs and feet to work. I immedately took him to the vet. They are keeping him a couple of days, running tests, doing some x-ray's and put him on steroids to see it that helps. She said sometimes they recover. She said I could take him to a dog neurologist ($6,000) up front and have a cat scan done. She thinks it's neurological, or something in his spinal colum. Whatever, his legs are not getting messages from his brain. She even tried to make his leg hurt, and it took a long time for him to feel pain. I feel terrible, I don't have $6,000 for a neurologist, then he might have to have surgery after that, and there are no guarantees he will be ok. All these scenario's are running through my head, does he have a tumor? Thanks for listening, I needed to vent. Periwinkle |
Honey, I'm sorry to hear this. Take a deep breath and take one day at a time. Don't jump to conclusions. Perhaps she injured herself when you weren't home jumping off of something and it's temporiary. Keep us updated. Sending prayer's for you and your baby girl. You;ll get the support needed to get through this here on YT. Hang in there and one thing at a time. |
Oh my gosh, how scary! I wonder if it could be GME, is that the right one? Before you give up on the money part, look HERE - particulary at the bottom - The Mosby Foundation. |
bless your heart. Hopefully the tests will show nothing seriously wrong with him. Please let us know what you find out, and I'll be saying a little prayer for your little guy |

I am so sorry, I hope it is nothing too serious and your baby will heal. I know how it is, some of these vet bills are terribly high and as much as I know we all would love to do what we can for our babies sometimes our financial situations don't allow it, don't be hard on yourself, stay positive, we will be praying for you and your baby! |

4 year old Yorkie lost use of legs Thanks for all your kind words and prayers. Thank God my neighbor works at the vet's office, so I know he is well cared for. She gets out of work at 3:00 so I am really anxious as to his condition. I don't think his sib realizes he is gone yet. I am sure she will be looking for him tonight. Oh yes, what is GME? I had to put Gizmo down yesterday I decided to make the decision to put my little Gizmo down yesterday. I feel absoloutely terrible. I had admitted him at the vets on monday, and they were giving him drugs around the clock to reduce swelling to see if he would improve. He still had no use of his legs, and couldn't stand. They did x-rays on him to see if there was any injury to his spine, but found nothing. The doctor said it was a neurological problem, probably something genetic. It came on so fast. One day, healthy and running around, the next day falling over. This could have dragged on for who knows how long, and there was no guarantee he would ever get better again. There is such an emptpy place in my heart. I went and saw him after he was euthanized to say goodbye. My daughter is going to pick up his body today. My poor husband was digging a grave for him at 6:00 a.m. before he went to work. Tonight we will bury him in the yard. My other Yorkie is wondering what the heck is going on, looking for him. Thanks for listening to me. Periwinkle |
