Neuter Infection Area Max was neutered on Tuesday Nov. 25th. Took Max in on Monday 12/2 because small spot at incision area looked "oozy". She gave me anti-biotics (Clavamox). It is now friday and the area still looks "oozy" and open. A little "hole". I have also been putting Neosporin on the "hole". It is small (about 1/4 of a bic pen cap) in size. She did not say to do this I just do. Should call again and get him in again or just stay the course and keep treating? I am so tired of paying for useless vet bills. It already cost $350 just for the Neuter (not including anything else). PS- He is not over licking the area and it does not seem to bother him in the least. That is probable the problem because he keeps opening up the scab by playing. |
That should really be free because it relates to the neuter unless he is being allowed to do things that the vet said he shouldn't be allowed to do (like run and jump). I would call and ask what the vet wants you to do. Since it is open and has been four days and shows no signs of healing, I'd be a bit concerned. |
I called the vets office and the receptionist said she didn't know if it should still look like that still. She told me to bring him in at 12 PM. An hour away from now. I just don't want to be making an un-needed vet appointment. You know??? :( Sorry to whine but his bill with teeth pulled, micro-chip, neuter and then anti-biotics was about $800. |

I would not be happy if the vet wouldn't even try to help you on the phone and kept charging for post-op issues but that's just me. |
Thanks for the advice :) I am going to take him in even if it is only to make "me" feel better -LOL |
Crystal and Ellie May Thanks for all your help! I wanted to let you know the vet said Max is fine and the site actually looks better. She gave us a collar and we are back home. Have a great weekend! :aimeeyork |
A few years back when my moms dog was spayed the incision was infected also and I don't know how much this is true but my mom would clean the wound with Camomil tea and it healed up very nicely. This is actually what my mom is using to clean Stormy's face wounds and it is working wonders for her also. I believe that the vet should not charge you for the visit to check this out. I have to bring Stormy back in today for a check up and it is free of charge. Good luck! |
She did not charge me  I'll give the tea a try. It would be easy to put a used tea bag on it. |
