Yorkies do have fragile necks and their leashes should always be connected to a harness, not a collar.

I'm really doubting that putting her in a collar one time would cause all of this though...

Yorkies do get collapsing trachea. The vet can do an xray if you are concerned.

Is there a way you could post a video for us to see because explaining the nose doesn't seem to help...?

It could be reverse sneezing and that would happen when she is excited/playing. If that is what it is, you can put your finger over her nose for a couple seconds and it would stop.

Are you sure she isn't coughing?

The vet says she is okay. Nothing life threatening. So, apparently not a collapsing trachea. Have never heard of a reverse sneezing. Sometimes it does start off sounding like coughing. You know how when you are coughing and you kinda gag? That is how it is sometimes. Then, other times, it is just sounds like a cat trying to hack up a furball. That is the best way I can explain it. Can she get a cold even though she never hardly goes outside? I can TRY to catch her on video but my camera isn't all that great and she normally does it at bedtime, right after we have been playing hard. That is why we thought it could be puppy asthma.

Have you introduced anything new to the home? New blanket, clothes, carpet, cleaning products, etc?
Could be allergies/asthma caused by something in the home...
This actually happened to my yorkie...
Does it happen more at night or during certain times?
Could be kennel cough/upper respiratory infection...
Has she done this since you got her?
Hopefully she doesn't have collapsing trachea, but I would think the vet would need to perform some diagnostic tests to determine whether she has it (ie. palpating the trachea to check sensitivity, x-rays, etc.)

so it is not kennel cough ? Did she get a bordatella vaccine recently? you can see reverse sneeze and collapsed trachea on youtube by searching and you can see dogs that do this and i would think kennel cough would be on there too -- is she over weight as over weight can put pressure on the trachea causing the coughing sound. Heart problems can manifest in coughing too but since your vet said all is good -- i would do a search on youtube for dog coughing myself

I have the same worry about my Effie. I asked the vet last week when she went for her yearly shots (shes 14 months) and she confirmed that it was reversed sneazing. The doc made the noise and everything. Mine does it when she gets excited, for example when i come home from work,
or when we just start to play. Maybe twice a day? I asked about the trachea too. The vet tested by a small pinch to the neck which made her very incomfortable.

Reverse sneazing is when they have some nasal drip, and its just there way of trying to clean it.

I found all this very interesting. My 4 mo old Reggie has been coughing a gagging type cough for about 5 weeks now. The vet gave him an antibiotic which seems to be doing nothing for him. He said if the antibiotic didn't help we would need to x-ray him for collapsed trachea. I looked up the U-tube videos for both reverse sneezing and collapsed trachea and I think what Reggie is doing sounds more like a reverse sneeze. He tends to gag and sputter. All the videos I saw of a collapsed trachea sounded more like a honk like a dog with kennel cough to me. I sure hope Reggie is reverse sneezing and not the collapsed trachea. I will probably have him x-rayed at his recheck next week to make sure. So, what causes a reverse sneeze?

My little molie ann has a cough like she is hacking up something so I googled kennel cough. and this is what I found. Sounds like a miracle. has anyone tried this.

Since I have 3 dogs and am aware of the cough spreading to the others so I sterilized all the water bowls and applied 3 drops of the 3% peroxide with 2 teaspoons of honey for each 8 oz. glass and filled their bowls. Then I made the same mixture in a 4 oz. glass and I took out their toothbrush and brushed their teeth gently most of the time they just kept licking the brush. All coughing stopped immediately. If any coughing continues I'll brush again."

Reverse sneezing is when the soft palate is irritated...kinda like a tickle in your throught. Guppy started doing this about a week ago after barking like a madman at a dog in the yard behind us. He barked so much, that by the time I got him his mouth was foamy...yuck! We determined the dog behind us has been getting out and when he comes to the front of the house has been jumping up on the gate and driving my dogs nuts. I guess it's a territory thing. Anyway, he rarely ever barks so the vet thinks he's just been irritating his throat from all the barking and I can't let him out in the yard...I have to walk him for a week or two until I get him to break the habit of barking at the fence. So, in addition to the items above that can cause this condition, excessive barking can also be added to the list! Good luck, hope your little one gets better soon.

Oh, and by the way, you can often get them to stop by gently blowing in their face...:)
