24 hr Non-refrigeration of Flagyl In all the crazy hectic scrambling yesterday to get Nikko started on meds for Giardia and cleaning and bleaching everything, and cleaning up his soft-serve poo and all that... well, I forgot to refrigerate the Flagyl for about 24 hours. It's in the fridge now, but is it safe? Is it still effective? What should I do? I'll call the vet when they re-open, but if any of you know please tell me. I'm worried. There isn't much online about not refrigerating Flagyl. I think leaving amoxicillin out is fine but that doesn't help you here. :rolleyes: I would talk to a vet or possibly a human pharmacy might be able to help. We had to have a script for Flagyl compounded at a human pharmacy for Ellie before... |
When I left it out I called the vet and they had me come get another bottle. |
liquid metronidazole usually doesn't need to be refrigerated. at work we keep it just in a cabinet and thats also where i keep it at home. |
ditto -- my vet's assistant also said refrigeration of flagyl not necessary Take that for what it's worth (since it didn't actually come from a vet), but since someone else posted that refrigeration isn't necesary, and someone said it was . . . I thought I would tip the scale toward non-refrigeration. Good luck with your puppy's health issues. |
I have used liquid metronidazole and we do not keep it in the refrigerator. Now I have had a problem with amoxicillan/amoxi drops......I left them out for 24 hours and they went bad and actually made my yorkie sicker than she started. (My fault....I did not read the bottle.) |
Thanks everybody, I just can't get over how wonderful and helpful everybody on this forum is. It's so awesome. I get to talk to my vet tomorrow... I'm thinking perhaps that I was suppossed to refrigerate it because it has a little chicken flavor in it? Maybe the liquid Metronidazole is OK for non-refrigeration, but the chicken flavor needed to stay cold. Whatever the case, I'm still giving it to him until I can talk to my vet on Monday. He seems less interested with normal food and drink, but I can still get him to eat/drink a little with some cooking magic and coaxing. His poos seem a little less liquid, but still soft-serve. Well, we'll see on Monday. I'll let you all know when the vet says, and thank you all again. :-) Lauren & Nikko |
I know this tread is old but I was given this medicine for my dog today and did not realize it needed to be refrigerated. I just called the Vet and he said it was fine since it has only been 12 hours. He told me to just put it in the fridge now. |
