I'm hoping time will ease the pain of losing Savannah.
I know she would wish me to not be so sad but this has really been rough losing her unexpectedly like that.

She never thought she was a dog and we never thought she was either.
Savannah was SOMEBODY. She was a real person inside that little furry body. Someone with a vocabulary. Someone with a brain, able to solve problems. Someone with a SOUL!! Someone who was a pure JOY to be or have around.
Savannah was a miracle of God's creation, one of God's furry angels. We were blessed with her company for 9 short years.
She was the cutest little thing God ever created to run around on little soft toe pads.

I am sorry to hear about your angel.I lsot my shelby and was absolutely heart broken.Why don't you find a reputable breeder in your area and ask them which vet they use as those vets handle a lot of yorkies and know what they are doing.I recently lost faith in my vet when he
1.Was totally disinterested when I phoned him for advice on my yorkie that just had puppies
2.Told me to put frontline on my rats ears -he had mites and the local rescue organisation told me that was a total mistake-luckily I followed my instincts and didn't do it

Conclusion-don't put blind faith in a vet ask questions and demand answers like you would with your own doctor.They are supposed to be the animals advocate.

I used to get those from Savannah. I'd tell her to throw those little dawgy paws around Daddy's neck and give me some kisses. She would to. The kisses were licks on my nose. She was SO SWEET!

We are talking about changing vets. You're right it was blind faith. I never dreamed something so supposedly benign could possibly cause so much destruction in the life of my little doll angel Savannah.
We just aren't ready for another baby yet but when we are I'll take your suggestion to ask breeders about a good vet.

I took Savannah to this vet. SEVERAL times every year. Shots every year. Teeth cleaning, etc.
I don't place all the responsibilty with him. "I" should have done more research for Savannah's sake. In that respect I feel like I really failed her... and that's a hard thing to reconcile with one's self.

vets and doctors cannot be trusted completely.. just because a vet is licensed does not mean they know what is best.. i agree that it sounds like the deramaxx killed your savannah...your vet should be held accountable to at least admit to that fact.. some dogs are probably much more sensitive to drugs than others...i hope you get another puppy to fill the hole in your heart... try to remember that she had a great life for nine years.. and she is waiting for you on the other side....its not your fault...you trusted your vet..

I'm so so sorry for your loss!!! We lost our Mitzi (11 y.o.) due to kidney faillure in July of this year and I know how much you hurt.

I'd like to take the opportunity to say that IMO we should not allow a lot of drugs to be put in our babies bodies (or in ours...) It's a trend of our time to treat every ouwieh with a pill. I'm also strictly against over vaccination.

When our Maximus had a sore leg we brought him to our vet and thankfully he is of the old school. He told us to watch him for 2 days and if it's not better by then bring him back for an x-ray. No pain killers for him... and the leg was okay the second day...

I don't really have all the words to go along with what I'm feeling about your loss. My heart is aching. I lost my 16 year old Chihuahua suddenly. She had never been sick a day in her life, and then had a stroke. She's been at rainbow bridge for 14 months now and when I think my pain and sorrow has been replaced with the sweetest memories ever, I read posts like yours and the tears just pour immediately.
Having or getting another dog is truly better than any pill you could take. They seem to "know" your sorrow and do all they can to help. They are truly Gods little helpers.

If I could suggest four books to get and read before you add a new family member, you will not be sorry, and you will never have the need to ask questions about health, food and vaccinations ever again.

Thank you so much for the warning about this drug. I know how difficult it must of been to post this. Yes, it does seem to be a dangerous drug.

I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet Savannah. I am sure she was very very loved and she did not die in vain. She will always own a piece of yours and your wife's hearts and that space is filled with the many beautiful you gave her and they ones she gave you. I am sure she is watching over you both appreciating all the wonderful times you had together.

Deramaxx has been known to cause kidney failure, it is listed as an adverse affect of the drug. It brings me to tears to know that your vet did not warn you about this. It is not your fault, most vets do not tell you the adverse side affects or give any info sheets on medications they prescribe. You are not alone in the loss of a baby to Deramaxx, many people have lost their babies because of their vets have not warned them about the medications they give them. It is the vets job to take the time to talk over the meds with the owners.
You are doing the right thing by letting others know what happened with precious Savannah and I am sure she appreciates that and you donating her toys.

Geng, yours and Jim's story really hit me too. As I posted earlier, I had my Bijou on Deramaxx for about a week and a half before finding out the dangers of it. She had no adverse reactions but I took her off it anyway. She's only 2 years old and I couldn't see keeping her on such a dangerous drug. My vet gave me no warnings of the potential dangers of it and I guess I just got lucky that Bijou didn't have a bad reaction to it. I now am giving her a supplement of shark cartilage daily. At least I know it's safe. Thanks to both of you for posting your stories. It sure opened my eyes and, I'm sure, many others too. I was guilty of blindly following my vet and not doing my own research. I am so sorry for both your losses but you guys must know that your stories have reached many. Thanks so much for sharing. I know you have saved others the heartache you all went through.
