High Lipase Levels??? I took my Sebestian to the vet today because he has been acting a little different for the past couple of days. ( not being able to get comfortable, bad gas, stool a bit runny, etc.) I thought maybe his glands needed to be expressed and a fecal needed to be done to see if there was some sort of a parasite. Well, my vet calls and says that everything checked out fine expect his lipase levels are double what they should be. Has anyone experienced this with their yorkie? I'm on here fishing for additional information before I go pick him up today. Does anyone know what could cause this sort of increase in his lipase levels? Is this something that I should be extremely concerned about or does antibiotics usually take care of this sort of thing? Any information, suggestions, would greatly be appreciated. |

With runny stool and high lipase, pancreatitis would be at the top of the list. I'm very surprised your vet didn't say anything about this. I would do a Spec cPL to check the pancreas and do a very low fat diet until the results come back. Ellie's lipase was just up but her Spec cPL came back fine. It isn't always a cause for concern but I would definately check the pancreas. |
My vet did mention pancreatitis. He put him on antibiotics for two weeks and wants to check his levels again at that time. |

Did he switch him to low fat food? |
Sounds like pancreatitis to me, too. You will really need to watch his diet from now on. Here's a great article: Pancreatitis (Inflammation) in Dogs |
Layla had high lipase enzymes and she has pancreatitis. She is on a low fat diet and will be restested at the end of november |
He didn't say anything about switching his diet but I will ask when I pick him up. Thanks for all of the information. |
