I stepped on bella! I am a horrible mother!!
 

I do not know how this happened! but it was dark out and we were playing in the grass and she was making these squeeky noises she makes sometimes when we play and then i realize, it wasnt a good noise but a bad noise because i was stepping on her. she wouldnt stop shaking, and now she is hiding under the bed. i do not know if it is broken or what i have done to it. She isnt crying, but i think she is in shock. I need advice pleeease. I feel like such a horrible mom to her!

i spoke too soon....now she is crying a little and still hiding....

do i let her hide, do i take her to the vet, i dont want to touch and hurt it, but should i see if she crys if i touch it??????

I would go to the Vet....when they shiver it can be from pain...

How bad did you step on her? How small is she?

I would get her out from under the bed and look her over well. If she is still shaking and whimpering i would take her to the vet.

I would definately get her out from under the bed somehow and see if she is walking ok or not. Try and calm her down and if she is still shaking and or limping I would call the vet. I hope she is ok.

You are so not a horrible mom. These babies get all under foot and it's easy to miss them. I think we have all done it.

I would see if she is hurt in anyway. If you are still unsure, take her to the vet. Don't blame yourself, I think we've all done it or have come close. Maggie is so quick and I've stepped on her several times. Hubby stepped on her just this morning. We did with Hot Rod too but he learned not to get underfoot very quickly. Keep us updated.

my mom step on my yorkie too. When she was about 5 months old. Just wait a few days it will heal. Keep it in small area or cage so it wont wonder around. If the leg look like it broken still then take it to a vet.

I stepped once on Boo-Boo's paw and because he was really small it obviously hurt him and he was shaking too...But after 15 minutes all he wanted to do was play and give me kisses!!! If she's not ok yet take her to a vet...but they usually get over it pretty fast unless they are hurt!!! Now I always look at my feet everytime...You are not a bad mommy, so stop thinking like that!!! Keep us posted!

I agree...I've stepped on my baby the 1.5lb Lexie and she was ok. She was in the kitchen sitting right at my feet while I was washing dishes. I didn't know she was there and then I stepped on her but quickly moved off... I think I just got a little paw or something. She ran away but I quickly picked her up, kissed her and told her I was sorry and she was fine. No shaking or crying or hiding...

HI everyone, i am soo sorry for the lack of updates. please forgive me, i am in my first year of law school and between me hurting bella and studying i am so busy i hardly have time to breathe.
Bella was doing much better. i took her to my vet who i cannot stand one bit, and intend on switching. he said there may be a problem w her spine, and the disks being inflammed? she went back the next 2 days and he said she looked like she was doing better. she is still walking a little different but she seems perky. the only problem is now she had very bad diarea. I left her with my boyfriends parents for 2 days and starting last night she went a bunch of times and all through today as well. she seems uncomfortable. she is drinking fine, and i finally got her to eat dog food by mixing it w chicken broth.
i dont know if the diarea is from the steroid the vet has her on- prednisolone- she didnt start the diarea till 4 days after she was on it though
or if maybe it was from pasta sauce his parents fed her? but they fed it to her saturday and i would have thought it passed through by now.
anyways...i wish i had a better update...but i foresee a long night ahead of me and my little one. Thanks for all your advice everyone! and again i am sorry for not responding sooner!

wow if you can't stand your vet than i would switch...i used to move around a lot but now i finally bought a house...and with going to college and working i tried to find a vet near when i am staying when after purchasing this house...i went to the vet no more than 2 minutes from my house and i can not stand him...all he does is try to get you to buy this and that...and do this and that even though you tell him that you don't want it or you don't think its best for your baby...so i am now sticking with my last vet who i know cares about the well being of my furbutts and not trying to make a quick buck!

Re: the diarrhea & pasta sauce I guess it depends on what was in the pasta sauce. Some people add onions which are not ok for doggies. I have a no human food rule because people don't know what is ok and what is not ok.

prednisolone? umm, that is a pretty strong steroid.... they give this to cancer patients... i would research that a little more. i would definitely encourage exercising with her to build up the muscles that are weak. and most red sauce has a bit of onion and garlic in this... which could add to her problems...
for the shivering... it was maybe because she felt that you hurt her on purpose (which we all know you didn't) thus the hiding from you to avoid being hurt again. but when she realizes you are not going to hurt her again, with some forced loving and carrying her around she will warm back up in a heartbeat. i would get a second opinion asap about her spine.... seems like this guy is just in it for the money (the more they diagnose and treat, the more money they make). good luck

you need to find a vet that you can trust. that's the most important thing. you can ask people you know (friends/family) to recommend their vet or you can ask YT members that live in your area to recommend their vets.
