Advice.. I was giving Pippin a bath about an hour ago and I noticed that he has what looks like a water blister on the back of his right ear at the base. I tried calling my vet but I was on hold for 45 minutes and when I finally hung up without talking to anyone they were closed and no they do not have an emergancy number. It wasn't there yesterday, and it's not really hard and it doesn't seem to be tender when I touch it. He's been picking at his ears for a couple of days and the insides are red from his scratching and I know he's prone to ear infections, has been since we got him but I clean his ears twice a week, anyone have any idea as to what it could be. A friend of mine right away blurted out Cancer when I told her about it and she really has me worried. I plan on calling the vet in the morning to make him an appointment. |
I would not worry myself sick about it being cancer. A water blister does not sound like cancer to me. But I would call the vet in the morning and let them see it. |

I'm worried because he's never had anything like that before. I don't know if it's a water blister or not but my first thing I do in the morning after I let Pippin out is to call and make him an appointment. |
I meant to update this but I totally forgot. I had Pippin to the vet to check out that thing on his ear and his vet said that it's just a sore caused by him scratching his ear, but the thing is I can touch it and it's not sore. Anyways his vet said to just put polysporin on it and I have been but it's been about a week and a half and it's still there and it's actually hard. It doesn't look like it got any bigger and today I pushed on it with my nail a little bit and Pippin gave a little whimper. It looks like a water blister but it's not a water blister at all. His vet said it was nothing to worry about so I guess it really isn't anything to worry about. I don't know it's just freaky cause I really don't know what it is and I haven't seen anything like it before. |
Wow I'm asking for help and no one even replies with any advice or suggestions. I know I need to take him back to the vet, the vet assitant said to give it another week and if it's not cleared up then to bring him back in which is my plan. I'm just wondering if anyone out there has even seen this before. I just feel really alone. |
Sorry to hear about Pippin's booboo, but I am sure that Polysporin will do the trick, it seems to work miracles. I have not had any form of skin problem with Toby so far, we have been very lucky. Hope that it clears up soon and the little guy is back to normal. |
Any updates on Pippens' blister? Hope the meds did the trick. |
There really isn't an update. Pippin still has that bump on his ear, polysporin isn't doing anything. |
Sorry his ear hasn't gotten better. If it isn't an infection the ointment won't help. I'm wondering if it needs to be drained. I remember years ago one of my sisters bigger dogs had something on his ear and it was filled with blood and had to be drained and then he was fine and it never happened again. If he's not better by the end of the week I would maybe get a second opinion. Keep us posted. |
This seems to always be the first question I ask but, what does he eat? I wouldn't rule out an allergy. Especially with the frequent ear infections. I might also get a second opinion.:animal36 |
try a little zinc oxide ointment we used on ours on a blister dried it right up a few dayz:animal-pa |

Here's an update for you all. I took Pippin to the vet today about the bump on his ear. Turns out that it's a cyst and needs to be removed before it gets any bigger and bursts. He's being put under on Dec.2nd and the vet assured me that it was minor surgery and that I would be able to pick him up that same day. I just thought I'd update you all on how my little man made out at the vet. He was good today and let his vet take a look in both his ears (he normally freaks out), he also let her listen to his heart and check his teeth, which she said are amazing for a dog that does not get regular brushing. I'm a slacker and brush his teeth with his toddler toothbrush and cold water whenever I remember or whenever I can catch him. She was amazed because there was no tarter build up on any of his teeth and that they were nice and white. I guess maybe it's from all the chewing on his pork bone thingers that he does. |
Good luck with Pippin's surgery...im glad the vet finally figured it out and it wasnt serious |
Thank goodness they figured it out! At least he wil be getting it done very soon! I am sure they say it's miner because he won't need to be under very long at all. A snip, a stitch and he should be all done :) |
