Lose tooth?? I'm really worried now? I just took a look at my pups teeth and one of them looks like it's about to fall out, its very loose...one of the front ones. I'm not sure how this happened bc he always gets his teeth cleaned at his groomings. Can it be saved? Has this happened to anyone else? We're already dealing w/ either mange or allergies and this is just putting me over the top w/ stress. I can only imagine how he must feel. I feel so horrible....:( |
I'm sorry you're stressed.:( For the good news, puppies lose their baby teeth.:) It is very normal and the ones that he doesn't lose may have to be pulled by the vet. Food allergies aren't common in pups. Where is he itching? |
How old is your dog? Is he over 3, it could very well be loose because of tartar, and gingivitis. If one tooth is loose, than there's more to follow. Cleaning the teeth only when groomed is not enough. Yorkies are very prone to tartar, and this is one of their major weaknesses. The tooth might be able to be saved, and you probably should get your vets recommendations on cleaning. There are several things I have done to help prevent tartar in Joey; one is Petzlife gel. It is said that it softens tartar, allowing you to brush it away at a later time. I use a dog tooth paste a couple times a week, and Petzlife a couple times a week, at age two Joey shows no signs of tartar. I also think it's important that they have something hard to chew on, many vets recommend kibble, but other foods, such as carrots can stimulate the gums. Bully sticks are another way for the dog to clean their teeth because the chewing action, actually helps scrape teeth, and also stimulates gums. |
Hmm, I thought this was a pup. If it's an adult and this isn't a baby tooth, he needs to see a vet. |

No, he's 5 years old and we're already dealing w/ the itching and scratching over the last 3 weeks...I don't know if the biting could've loosened it up even more? Today we finally broke down and got an Ivectran (sp) shot and we're on antibiotics too. But this is too much...I haven't left his side the entire time. He "seems" to be in reasonable spirits, but I just feel as though somehow I failed him...ugh! I just want to cry. |
What areas is he scratching or biting? Was a skin scraping done? Five-year-olds who lose teeth usually have periodontal disease. Ellie has it and had to have oral surgery. It is just one of those things that has to be done...he will be okay though.:) |

At first he was only itching in a couple of spots and licking his front paws. We went to the vet and did the first scrap test, negative. She gave me antibiotics and steriods and thought it was allergies? We finished all the meds and he started itching REALLY bad and developed the crusty edges of his ears and red tiny bumps on his neck, belly and all over. We went back again, she did another scrape test and negative, gave me another course of anti, suggested benedryl and still thought it could be allergies and that I should see a derm. I couldn't get an appointment w/ derm til this coming Tuesday, but last night was the final straw. Based on A LOT of reading on the internet and the fact that neither of us slept a wink last night.and that we've had wild fox at my dootrway, I'm convinced its sarcoptic mange, thus the shot today..time will tell..sorry this is SO long!!but I wanted to give you the whole story, it has been extremely painful.I'm not an expert, but he has all the classic signs and I HAD to do something to help end this misery!I actually believe the initial meds made it much worse! Thoughts? |
