Is there a connection between fixing and UTI's? I've been reading the posts regarding uti's and our furbabies getting fixed. It seems like more than a couple of us have had pups that have problems with uti's. I just got a urine sample from my baby since I found blood in his urine earlier. He has crystals in it. He was just neutered yesterday. Is there a connection between the two? |
I doubt there is a connection between the two, it takes time for crystallization, but no doubt that it must be taken care of by your vet. Bladder stones are recurring and a prescription diet is a must. Some crystals can be dissolved by medication but some are not, they require to be surgically removed. I'll be praying for your pup. My Nygee had a cystotomy 4yrs ago, and she has developed stones again. |
Make sure and have those stones analyzed...Did they find crystals as well? What kind were they? |
I got a sample early this morning, but I threw it out thinking Alfie had to pee bc he was acting like he had to go, but no! I wanted to get a fresher sample for the vet which is why I threw it out:rolleyes:. So here I am waiting until he needs to go again. He just ate a bunch and it napping now. Hopefully I can get something from him when he wakes up. He is probably wondering why I'm following him around the backyard with a cup in my hand lol:p. The sample I got this morning looked normal compared to last night's. I'm not taking any chances though. |
Hey all, just a quick update! I took Alfie to the vet today. They said the urinalysis came back fine. They found no blood but a few crystals in it, however there was no cause for concern she said. She pretty much left it up to me whether I wanted to watch him over the next few days to see how he's doing or to put him on some amoxicilllin as a precautionary measure. I chose the meds for peace of mind. Thank you for the input and advice! |
