Yellow Jacket Warning I havn't post on here in a while but thought I needed to share this story. Two weeks ago Dewey (6 lbs) got stung on the jaw by a yellow jacket. We called the vet, she said to give him 1/2 tbs of Benadryl. He was fine. Then he got stung on the foot his past Sunday afternoon. I took him in and gave him the Benadryl again. I had to go somewhere and left. My wife called in about 20 minutes and said Dewey was not doing good. He had vomited and was lifeless. She grabbed him and ran up to my parents house and called me. I told her I would meet her at the emergency vet. On the way he became more lifeless and lost control of his bowels, his puples dilated and his eyes were rolling back in his head. She got him to the ve and they tok him back. They came out in 15-20 minutes and said is stats were fine and he was breathing fine. After about thirty minutes they brought him to the room with us. He seemed fine and has been fine since. We almost lost him. Thank God he is fine and indoors. The next day our vet called and said to keep him indoors until the jackets are gone. She said we would not have as much time if he gets stung again. So everyone watch your little fur ball very, very close if they get stung. |
Thanks for the warning. How did you know Dewey was stung by a yellow jacket? Did he let out a loud yelp? Did you have to pull out the stinger?? Thanks for any info you can provide. I just want to be prepared in case this ever happens. |
We actually saw them. The fisrt one he snapped at and stung him on the jaw. I saw him step on the other one. It stung him about an inch up on the back of his front leg. We never found the spots, ourself. The vet found the one on his leg. |
Ok, I'll just make sure that I pull her away from any bees...since I have fear of them. When I was 7-8 yrs old, I was stung by the same wasp twice. Once on the face and then on my hand when I reached out to cover it (apparently the wasp got caught betw my hands and stung me again). |
Oh My GOODNESS !!! I am so thankful that your little sweetie is ok. What an ordeal. How horrifying. Hugs for your wee one. |
Thanks for the warning. We have lots of yellow jackets here. I live an hour away from the nearest vet. I will be sure to keep an eye on my yorkies when they go outside. |
I have been told that each time they are stung, the reaction will get worse! So what you are saying sounds exactly right. My little female was stung and had no reaction, but I was told the next time I would most likely have to take her in because she would have a reaction!!! I hope we don't have to deal with this EVER again! I'm glad your baby was OK. |
I am so glad he is ok, and thanks for the warning. |
Thank God he is ok. Thanks for letting us know. I learn something new here everyday. |
