Chewie just got neutered yesterday We brought him home tonight and he has tons of energy and doesn't seem to be in pain at all. But he has been squatting like he's going to pee pretty often but then he doesn't pee. But he just did pee and there was a few drops of blood in it. I called our breeder and she said to keep an eye on him and call the clinic in the morning if he's still doing it. I just put Chewie is his kennel and put him in our bedroom to go night-night. Should I be really worried about him? My husband doesn't think so. Is this common after a neuter? Like I said, he's acting perfectly normal - running around like crazy, as usual. |

He is probably feeling pretty good from the medications they gave him. I would try to keep him low key anyways cuz its the medicine making him feel good. blood really is not a good sign, i would def call your vet! |
I spoke with the vet that did the neuter this morning. He said he thinks it sounds like a urinary tract infection. He said that's not really related to the neuter. Only that he may have been somewhat uncomfortable so he held it too long and with his immune system being lowered because of the surgery, he got an infection. We have a vet appointment for 5:00 this afternoon to have him seen. Hopefully that's all it is and with a few antibiotics he'll be as good as new. He's seriously so hyper that he doesn't seem sick, but he does keep squatting. The sheet we got from the vet says no excessive running or playing. I don't know how to stop him from doing that. i'm not encouraging him to play. I haven't tossed a ball for him or anything but he runs around and plays on his own. He just loves all his toys so he's not going to just sit still. Of course, my husband and I are both at work right now and will be all day today so I imagine he'll sleep most of the day. He doesn't have free run of the house so there's not a lot for him to do. |
Hope he feels better soon!!! |
Best wishes coming Chewy's way for a complete recovery. |
I had Alfie neutered yesterday and I just noticed tonight that he has a little blood in his urine. I just got off the phone with the vet, and they told me to get a urine sample because small dogs are susceptible to excessive crystals, or something of that matter, after surgery. Now I need to figure out how to catch his pee. That should be fun:rolleyes:. Hope your boy is feeling alright! |
We should start a neuter club ..Wiz gets the snip tomorrow . How fast they grow . I am hoping against hope that this helps with his constant peeing . He has lifted his leg since mid summer ...he is only 6 moths old now . |
do girls get these problems as easily???? londons getting spaid tomorrow and im really nervous! |
Wow! It is a neuter/spay party! Ryder is going in next Thursday! |
They don't know if it is an infection or just inflamation but gave us some antibiotics just in case. Hopefully if it's either, he'll start to feel better in a day or two. He's acting just fine other than having to pee a lot. |
Must be a run on Neutering . . . Gucci goes in tomorrow. He'll be 6 months on the 1st of Nov. I'm a little nervous - he's around 4 #s. I'll feel better when he's home tomorrow afternoon. |
Wizzy is less than 4 pounds , was 6 months on the 17 of October and will b home form the operation by 4 this afternoon . I bring him in at 8 pm . This is my first male dog ever and I am more worried about him then I was any of my shepherds . Sheesh . |
...and that should read 8 AM .....well I am just on my first coffee now and it is 6:27 ! |
Gus was neutered recently. He had to wear an E-collar and have go back for suture removal. Is this your experience? I ask because I haven't heard anyone mention suture removal. He seemed to be healing very well for the first 3 or 4 days. Then on day 4, swelling occurred. I panicked and called the vet. He said to apply ice packs (yeah sure) to reduce the swelling. Turns out swelling, a couple of days after surgery, is normal. |
Well Gucci came home the same way he went in. Seems the blood work showed an elevated liver enzyme reading. Then the second test didn't make the vet comfortable with surgery, so I'm taking him in for an ultrasound on Monday. Hopefully, we'll find that it's not serious and he'll be scheduled for next week. He eats drinks and acts normal, so I'm thinking our vet is being extra cautious. Not a good day for us. |
I'm hoping your vet is just being extra cautious as well, Guccibear! He's so adorable. Let us know how it all goes.:aimeeyork |
I hope your dog is okay as well . Wiz came through with flying colours and will get his stitches out in 10 days . He came home with pain meds but is back to his old self already ...we worry so much and dogs are so resilient . |
london came home this morning after being spayed yesterday. her stitches dissolve on their own. but i have a question about the pain meds. the vet sent her home with 4 tubes of pain meds. im supposed to give her one every night. what about during the day??? i dont want her to be in pain. shes certainly not herself right now. all she wants to do is lay down, which i know is good, but i want my baby to be comfortable. when i went upstairs she followed me and got up the first maybe 6 steps but then stopped and looked at me like "...mommy. i need help" and i had to carry her up and down. im afraid shes hurting since all she wants to do is snuggle. she is eating and drinking. im just wondering if she should have more even though the vet said it was strong. after i had surgery i had some great stuff, but i needed it every 4 hours, i cant imagine going 24! |
My vet said no stairs for a while .. I know that a neuter is not as major as a spay and he had the neuter . ..just so you know . |

use an old soup ladel and just stick it under him when he squats! |
The first urination in the morning is best. My vet provided a urine sample kit, i.e., a shallow tray to collect the sample, and a container to put the sample in. There are different size trays to accommodate different size dogs. Whatever you use, you may want to get Alfie accustomed to it first. Let him sniff and play with it. Gus jumped the first couple of mornings I tried to use it. So, it took me a while to get the sample. |
Poor baby! I don't know anything about little boys but just wanted to say that I hope the Chewster bounces right back and will be his happy little self before you know it! Please give him hugs for Toto and me. |
