No food after dental cleaning? Rusty went under this morning to have his teeth cleaned and he was up immediately after it was over. The vet told us to withhold food till tomorrow morning, but at that point it will be 36 hours without food. Anyone else ever hear something like this? |

Sounds like Rusty needed lots of gum work as well. The problem with eating too soon, food can get back into gum pockets before them receded from cleaning. Did you ask your dentist, why so long? How big is Rusty? |

Rusty weighs about 8 pounds. Thanks for the help. |

Well, I guess hypoglycemia wouldn't be a huge issue, but I just can't imagine what Joey would be like after not eating that long. That seems really unreasonable. I would talk to my vet if I were you, and find out the reasoning behind it. Maybe you could compromise, and give something, if he okay's it. |

When Pixie had her dental surgery and 5 teeth pulled and bad gums I fed her that night but the vet said I could. Pixie was on antibiotics 3 days prior to dental and 5 days after due to infected gums, |

Ellie had 9 adult teeth pulled and a cleaning awhile back. I think the vet said give 1/2 meal that night and soft food (or softened kibble) for a week. |
