Roxie is having a weird head wobblyness
 
I am really worried about Roxie. She has been fine all day, we have had workmen in the house all week puttin gin new windows, and last week all week they were on the roof so the girls have been pretty wound up. Tonight I noticed when she was standing still she had a slight head wobblieness and a bit of a body wobble. She has eaten like normal, with last meal one hour ago, I did give her nutrical when I first noticed it which didn't make any difference. She is acting normal as far as jumping up when my dtr just came home, getting excited about a treat, but does seem tired. I know they have not been sleeping during the day like they normally do, but could the wobbleness be caused from being overtired? Any suggestions are appreciated. I was going take her to the ER vet but everyone is telling me to watch her and see if it goes away. She does have a small open fontanel but I did not see her get injured in any way. She is sleepingnow and when she is sleeping or walking there is no sign of the wobbleness only when standing still. I have touched her all over and she does not seem to hurt anywhere. Thanks

NatureSick.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting If your little girl is less than 4 pounds, it's really common, but don't take it lightly, it can be very serious. Some people have found that more frequent feeding helps or free feeding is another alternative. The problem with giving Nutri-cal is that it can cause another hypoglycemic episode to occur if there is not protein given afterwards, remember Nutri-cal is just a temporary fix, and since it's pure sugar it goes into the blood stream fast, but it also causes the body to produce insulin which can in turn bring on another attack of low blood sugar.

This is what the wobbly sounds like to me also. My little one had two episodes in the last three weeks. It is very scary and needs to be taken care of immediately.

This sounds like the early symptoms my pup was showing when she had a neurological issue. I would take her to a vet and have a blood and urine pannel done. She must be under some stress physically to be so weak. Hope everything is ok, keep us posted!

Thanks for the responses. She went to sleep and I watched her most of the night and we were up a couple times to let my Pom out and she seemed tired but not so wobbly. This morning she has not had any signs of it but she hasn't sat still much either. They are all sleeping now so I will reevaluate her when she wakes up again. I have a lot of experience with hypoglycemia and liver shunt and it seemed different, very slight wobbliness only when standing still. no falling over etc. My concern was neurological problems so I will keep an eye on her. Also with the open fontennal I always worry she will bump her head while playing. I do keep her bow situated over the small opening to help give an extra cushion. She did have blood work when she was spayed in August and it was all normal. If I see any more of the wobbliness I will get her in immediately.

If the Nutrical didn't make any difference to resolving the wobbliness, then it likely has nothing to do with low sugar at all. Hmmmm. Her gait/walking is all normal lately though? Any fumes from the window work? Ear infection causing imbalance? Poor punkin!

Tina had wobbliness problems, like she had vertigo, multiple times and then it would go away, so I never took her in. within a few months is when she had a stroke type neurological attack (couldn't afford the mri for diagnosis), and our vet told us that the visual dizziness was a bad sign. Her levels were not that out of whack when the episode occured. She hasn't had those issues since her recovery, but I think that they were related to having pressure in her brain. I hope all is ok!

OMGosh, Patti! I will pray that all is okay with your precious Roxie! Has she been wobbly at all today? I wonder if it is something to do with having workers in and out? I sure hope there is nothing serious! Hugs to you!

could she have gotten into anything that could cause neurological effects cleaners for carpet, wood floors I hope she is ok

Thanks I will definatley take her in if she has one more episode. I too thought with all the commontion here and fumes form new windows she may have been affected. She seemed so tired too. So far she is playing like normal, fighting with her sisters etc. I am taking Maya , my pom in for a recheck on her congestive heart failure and cushings so I will mention it to her.

Aww Patti I'll pray that she is ok. Maddie had an ear infection once and acted wobbly. She was almost 1 when she got it. The vet said it through her balance off, just like in adults. Has she been messing with her ears at all?

thanks for the link to the video...i would have never known what it look like...i was so scared i had to run and find my bottle of nutrical and give them each some...hehe...just want to be safe.

I hope you find out what troubling her, remember, Nutri-cal can take 20 minutes to work, I'm told that if you put in on the roof of the mouth, it's even faster than on the gums, but symptoms won't go away immediately.

Oh no, don't do that anymore. Nutri-cal is simply corn syrup or sugar. It's not for preventing hypoglycemia; it's for helping it once it happens. When low blood sugar occurs, you need something that can raise the blood sugar fast, and Nutri-cal or corn syrup will do this, but every time you give sugar, insulin is produced, and insulin lowers the blood sugar, so if there is no protein given after Nutri-cal, another incidence of hypoglycemia can occur. Nutri-cal could even CAUSE another attack, so don't give it unless they are experiencing some symptoms, it should not used as a preventative.

opps...i rarely give it to them if even but after seeing that video it scared me so i gave them a little lick of the straw..hehe..

In that case, you probably never have to worry about hypoglycemic issues; free feeding is the best choice for tinies that are prone to this. They can eat before they get overly hungry.

Update! Roxie has seemed fine. We did find a cigarette butt all wet in the hall 2 days later. It wasn't in the hall 5 minutes before and I had just let the girls out in that area to go outside. So I think Roxie may have picked it up the night she had the wobbliness and dropped it in the front of the house and when I let then out in that area again she found it. Don't know for sure but it may be the reason. I saw one of the roofers smoking while he was working so I am sure he just threw his butts all over. We went out and made sure there were no more.

I hope you still take the time to mention it to your vet. After Tina was sick we told our vet and they said that wasn't normal at all and we should have told them when it happened. In hindsight it may have prevented what came along further down the road that was scarry and costly. I hope your little one stays happy and healthy!
