Panting and shaking I have 4 Yorkies, the "mom" Ginger and her 3 girls, the mom is going to be 9 in Nov and the girls are going to be 7. There names are Rose, Tess, and Stella. Tonight Stella is wanting to stay very close to me and is shivering and panting, her ears are warm too. I am not as panicked as the first time or two that this happened but I do feel worried.. I don't know what makes this happen, I try to soothe her and talk to her and hold her close but still it goes on for a few hours sometimes. Any ideas, she has been fed, has water, its not hot so I don't know what else would cause this :confused: |
First Welcome to YT! My guidoune pants, shakes and paces but this is only because something has stressed her (she's terrified of thunder, fireworks and big bang noises), she knows when a storms coming before i do! This summer we had alot of thunderstorms early in the summer every day, one time at night it was real terrible and she was so scared. But her shaking/panting/pacing would only last normally 15-30 min (i call them little episodes) I too comforted her and held her, talked to her, but i then later read on the internet that i was making it worse by doing so!:( I try not to do it so much but it's hard not to because she comes to me. I wish I had an answer for you. I have the same problem with Tosh. It's happened three times since June. At first I thought he was overheating (even though his ears weren't hot) and treated him accordingly, but the last time the panting and shaking went on for 4 hours despite cooling him down. I was really scared, not knowing what was wrong with him. I spoke to the vet on call and tried giving him 1/4 of a tylenol in case he was in pain, but that had no effect. She then suggested a teaspoon of pepto bismol or similar. He calmed down 1/2 hour after I gave him this. The next day I took him in to be examined but the vet is still not sure what the cause of this is. She asked me to get a thermometer and take his temperature next time so we can see if he's got a fever or is otherwise overheated. If anyone else has any suggestions about what is going on I am feeling desperate! |
Have you taken her temperature? If her ears are warm, she might have a fever. |
