Please pray for Mia My baby girl Mia is sick this morning. Last night she started stumbling when she walks and sometimes her back feet or front feet give way and she just falls over. She has been shaking and panting at the same time. I don't know of any falls that she has had. She hasn't been eating as much the last couple of days and last night she wouldn't eat her dry food. I was able to get her to drink the broth off when I put water on it and some cottage cheese and yogurt. This morning she ate a spoon of canned food and a spoon of cottage cheese. I left her at my vets office to be checked out this morning. He normally is in at 9:30 but today he can't be there until 2:00. Any ideas of what could be wrong, please let me know. Most of all say a little prayer for her. She is almost 3 years old and weighs 4 pounds. Thank you. |
I don't know what could be wrong, but I will pray your baby is okay. |
I will say a prayer for her. |
That sounds like it could be neurological. If nutrical/sugar doesn't bring her out of the falling episodes almost immediately (and I really don't think she would start to go hypo at this age anyway), I would have her liver checked. It also sounds a lot like she is in pain if she isn't able to stand and is shaking.:( |
I will keep her in my prayers. Pixie had a similar episode and it was from exposure to fertilizer on the lawn that we weren't aware of. |
I agree that it does sound like it could be neurological, make sure they consider that. My Gidget was recently diagnosed with necrotizing encephalitis and the first sign was stumbling. I pray it isn't that but if you catch it early there is hope. I will say a prayer for your Mia. Lee Ann |
Mia update She doesn't have any broken bones and her blood panel didn't show anything. No ear infection. He thinks she as a mild concussion and sent her home with medication. He told my husband that it will take her a few days to get over it and if she doesn't improve in the next 3 days to bring her back. I am going by to pay the bill and see if I can talk to him also. I had my husband ask about doing a bile acid test and the doctor didn't think it is her liver. He gave me paper work on what to look for with the concussion and also information about liver shunt. So I guess we will take our meds and see how the next few days go. Thanks for your replies and prayers. I will update later on her progress. |
:):)Mia is going to be ok. I will keep her in my prayers along with all the other YT members;);) |
Oh my gosh -- how terribly scary this must've been! I do hope you see improvements, if not already. Those are some odd symptoms. Does a concussion sound right to you? Did the vet mention the necrotizing encephalitis at all? Perhaps if it was that, the panel would have showed something. ALL kinds of good thoughts coming your way :). Please keep us updated on your precious Mia. |
Here is that thread on EN, just so you can read about it: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-terriers.html |
I would watch Mia very carefully and if you start to see other signs then take her to the Vet immediately. With my dog Gidget, it started with a limp, then she became very wobbly and then blind, the wobbliness to the blindness happened over a 2 day period and that is when I took her to the Emergency Room. I hope that all Mia has is a concussion but if you start seeing other signs or it is getting worse, I would encourage you to take her in immediately. If it is Necrotizing Encephalitis or GME you have to start treatement immediately in order to push this disease in remission. Again, don't mean to scare you but I would definitely watch Mia closely. Brooke was wobbly and her legs went out from under her too!! Our regular vet did a lot of tests and couldn't find anything wrong, she sent us to a specialist who couldn't figure it out but thought it was neurological and we were sent to a Veterinary College where Brooke was given an MRI and Spinal Tap and she was diagnosed with GME. Lee Ann is right just watch her closely and if she is getting worse then it is not a concussion and I would get her checked for neurological problems. Good Luck, I hope she is better tomorrow and we are all worried for nothing!! But knowledge is power, even if you don't need that knowledge right now!! |
