Can they use a tiny non-needle syringe to get past the cleft and force some food (they'll have to make a formula for her) into her? There are folks on here with WAY more experience in clefts than me - hopefully they'll chime in soon... |
Breny is online now - hopefully she'll see this, I just left her a message... :) |
thanks wylies mom i dont know if she has anything like that i know i dont..i wonder where she could buy something like that |
Hey Tammy, I raised a cleft palet Chi and she was 2 in July. her cleft was in the soft pallet and I went out and bought a premi nipple (for a human) and I bottle fed her that way. I also alternated with a syringe with the needle taken off. I used a formula that I made myself that has more calories per CC than normal store bought. I did not tube feed and I do not have experience in it as it scares the crap out of me, so I did what I could with the bottle. It was a LONG road. I have not had her repaired. She now has adjusted and drinks from a bottle and only eats kibble. Here is the recipe I raised her on for 4 months: ( I used evaporated Milk) Bottle Feeding Recipe 11 Calories per CC 1. 10 oz. of canned evaporated milk or goat’s milk (not pasteurized cow’s milk - this will cause scowers - dogs cannot drink normal cow’s milk) 2. 3 oz. sterilized water (baby water or boiled water) this is not needed if using goat’s milk 3. 1 raw egg yolk 4. 1 tablespoon regular mayonnaise (optional) 5. 1 cup of whole yogurt (avoid skim or fat free) 6. 1/2 Tsp Karo Syrup or Corn Syrup (NOT HONEY !!!) Place ingredients in a blender and blend or use a wire whisk. Be careful to not over blend and create a milk shake full of bubbles . I will help anyway I can!!!! |

Hey everyone earlier i got a text that the puppy didnt have a cleft, but tonight i called and she said oh she is just deformed with a crack down the roof of her mouth...i said its the cleft pallet so brodi's mom im trying to contact you now i told her to get a heating pad. Becasue she said the baby is cold and crying. Please email me or call me thanks everyone |
Oh, gosh I hope this baby makes it. Tell her also to take a towel - put it in the microwave, warm it up. Make sure it's not too hot when she takes it out, wrap him up in it. |
This breaks my heart. I am praying that this baby makes it. |
does anyone know brodis mom info this puppy is doing bad now she is choking, and drowning and she is gasping for breath occassionally when fed, and has passed away once!...i think time is slipping she is crying |
Im here if you need me but if she has lost her once she really needs to get food and suger in her and put on a heating pad this is why people that dont know what they are doing as far as breeding should not do it cause these things happen and you have to be prepared for them. |

Hi, I have a very strange request and would be most grateful for any assistance. I am doing research on responses to animal and human faces with cleft lip and need good quality images preferably front on. I know that many of you here are extremely knowledgeable about cleft and may be in possession of such images. I was wondering if anyone had any such images that they might be willing to allow me to use? Many thanks in advance |

pm sewgramy as she has a maltese that had a cleft palat an has lived a long wonderful life :) |
Cleft baby I have successfully raised four cleft babies. You cannot use a bottle or nipple or put anything into the mouth. The puppy needs to be tube fed only. Anything you put in the mouth goes directly into the sinus and lungs. The puppy needs to be kept warm and if it has been allowed to get cold, it is really bad news. I am in michigan or I would come for the puppy. The surgery is only about $200. to repair the cleft but the puppy will have to be tube fed for several weeks until it is big enough for the surgery. It doesn't stay at every 2 hours. By the time it is a few weeks old it can be every six hours. I feel so helpless here. Yvonne |
photos I have several pictures of my cleft babies and even have pictures from the surgeries. Yvonne |
