Yorkie with the sniffles! Has anyone else's yorkie ever caught a cold? Spike was at the kennel last weekend and I think he might have picked up a cold there. He is vaccinated for kennel cough, and has been for over a year, and there is no coughing, so I don't think it's that. My sister, who has two dogs, says that the symptoms are exactly the same as her dog had a few months ago. She took him to the vet, who told her that he simply has a cold, and to keep him warm and well rested. Other than the sneezing - (he seems to like sneezing all over me!) - he is fine - no lethargy, no coughing, no vomiting, wagging his tail, pees and poops fine, eating and drinking well. Any ideas? Has anyone had a similar experience? Is there anything I can do to make him more comfortable (Neo Citran for dogs?). How long did your dog's "sniffles" last? |
Spike is still no better, no worse, either, so I've made an appointment to take him to the vet tomorrow just to be sure...when I made the appointment, the lady said that sometimes they just need a little medicine to help them kick it thoroughly, so I'm hoping that's all it will be...wish us luck! |
It sounds like he caught a little upper respiratory infection while he was boarded. A course of antibiotics is probably in order. |
when i first got MeiLing a week later she caught a cold...i for one had 5 other dogs prior to her...and had never experience it...i was scared...so that Saturday night i ran her to the ER and they told me it was just a cold...what a relief but now i know dogs can catch a cold...it was scary! |
The diagnosis is either a mild case of kennel cough, or a cold (slight bronchitis). The vet had a good listen to his lungs, took his temperature, and gave him a good exam, and said she was confident he would get better on his own. Because of this, she decided not to prescibe any antibiotics, mainly because she wasn't entirely sure what the illness was, and if it was viral, antibiotics wouldn't make any difference anyway. He's doing better, but still sneezing quite a bit, so if he's no better in a few days, she said she'd give him the presciption, just to be sure. |
Poor baby! I hope he feels better soon :getwellso |
