spriochete anyone heard of? so emma has has really bad diareah with tons of mucous in it for 6 days. i had just given her her monthly interceptor heartworm and worm preventative so i thought maybe that was just making it her have the diareah. but since she was still that way today i decided to take her to the vet. after doing a fecal exam they said she had spirochete. which i guess an overgorwth of bacteria and they gave me metronidazole. im supposed to give her one for 6 days. i searched for it but didnet really come up with much does anyone know anything else about it. is it contageous. i am also worried what if it was something else like giardia or something worse becasue they said if it doesnt get better in 6 days to come back. so it seemed like they might not have been postive that was it. maybe im just overreascting but any help would be awesome. |
From what I found on Google, spirochete is a spiral shaped bacteria that can cause all sorts of diseases including lyme disease and lepto. Leptospirosis Lyme Disease |
Hmmm, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me as spirochetes are a type of bacteria and to me they often indicate more serious things. So, I'm not sure what exactly this means. Clearly, your vet doesn't think this is very serious since the treatment is only Metro for 6 days - so, I guess that's good. Sometimes, spiros are related to lyme or lepto - but this does not sound like what your baby has. So, I guess there is something else entirely going on here, but I'm not clear on what that is. I wish I knew more. :( |
ya i know i am a little confused too. becasue all the spirochetes means is spiral shaped but they didnt tell me what it was specific too except the intestines. so hopefully this medicine makes her better. |
